Franklin gets great press, but when you actually know more about the man the less praiseworthy and quotable you find him.
I never heard Franklin speak but Snowden's fear mongering "dog and pony" show is really getting very very tired. Maybe it was the NSA that leaked the nude Jennifer Lawrence pics?
Citizenfour is a highly rated documentary film about Snowden and the broad depth & impact his revelations had on the community. It is well worth watching.

He should tell that to the family of a Jordanian pilot who was just burned to death...
Tell me, who are the fear mongerers again? Those who tell us that, hey, maybe it isn't in our best interest to give the state carte blanche to watch our every move and detain us without just cause, or those who tell us that we have to wait hours in line and take our shoes off at the airport (going through all sorts of theatre that security experts agree does nothing to stop terrorists) because some clown put 50 grams of explosives in his shoe 15 years ago.
We must change the way we work, travel, communicate, do business... our very lives because some savage camel fuckers half a world away do awful things and once in a great while inspire mentally ill people closer to home to do awful things. But the whistleblowers are the "fear mongerers". Got it.

On that topic, I wonder if any of the UCC students asked why he fled to China and Russia if he thinks personal freedoms are that important.
So your logic is if he thinks personal freedoms are that important, he should be rotting in jail instead of living in exile with his girlfriend ?
Snowden is an expert that had the highest clearance in NSA and that doesn't suggest to you that his opinion on what measures should be used to catch terrorist instead monitoring innocent civilians isn't more valid than say a Fox news commentator ?

Or, you know, just keep pulling knee-jerk opinions out of your ass.
Is Ed also giving lectures on privacy rights and how to combat terrorism to students closer to his new home? Also, how about a lecture on not invading other sovereign countries? Maybe Ed has a lot to teach the Russians.
I listened to it all, For a guy who never graduated High School, I find him quite intelligent, informative, modest, fair and very open minded but most of all courageous , this is the stuff our leaders should be made of.
And if you didn't take the time to listen to this lecture, please don't bother with a rebuttal.
