I wanna buy a new DVD Camcorder but the price is a bit steep ($ 800).
Does anyone have any idea when they will start coming down in price????

You might want to check out www.beachcamera.com

I have purchased there before and find them pretty good. But I am not sure of their policies as to shipping to Canada.

I bought the Sony DVD last year for over a grand. You can pick one up for the same price and get better features. The point is, there is no real good time to buy one. Just like buying a computer, there is always a better one coming down the pipeline.

mmm My buddy bought one - big disappointment

a brand new Sony, and it could'nt take any video involving fast action. The DVD simply cant keep up. And I'm talking about his kids kicking a ball to one another!!

He gave it back and got a tape-based recorder which he is happy with.

dvd camcorders look pretty glam, but i would stick to the mini dv tape format. way easier to deal with, you can reuse the tapes way easier, and it has the same or better compatiblity with your pc.

Yeah but with a DVD camcorder you just throw the DVD in the drive and upload onto your hard drive.
With tapes you have to muck around with USB cords.

I'm a little worried about the previuos post that said he couldnt tape his kids soccer game.

Slow DVD Write speed cant keep up.

Appreantly the slow DVD write speed can't keep up with the fast action its trying to record. You should carefully weigh up your needs against the convenience. And when you buy ask to try it out first.

Might want to wait...

Hey Esco!,

You might want to hold off on that DVD Camcorder purchase.

I just saw a commercial for the 1st hard drive based camcorder which can record up to 37 hours.

You may want to check this out:

JVC Everio

BTW, the commercial was pretty funny. This guy is in Paris with his hot blonde girlfriend. While he's screwing around with changing the discs on his DVD camcorder, some French dude comes along and steals his girlfriend. LOL.

Wouldn't recommend using USB to transfer video. Video has a lot of data and, in my experience, using USB results in dropped frames and poor quality. It'd be worth it to get yourself a Firewire card.
