All trucks are menaces on the highway.

Half of them are beyond unsafe and the other half are being piloted by guys who are falling asleep.
Those are the comments of a narrow minded fucking imbecile. You make these comments and have no idea what your talking about or have proof. You also have no idea what truck drivers have to deal with from braindead fucktards driving cars, pickups and suv's every day either.
I drive a truck and it was so unsafe when I had the safety done last month. Needed a licence plate light, even though I don't have a rear plate, and one clearance light on the visor. Also, I was totally asleep when I drove it to the shop. Get a life.

You're still making assumptions.

That would be like me saying that all SPs on here are pimped out or on drugs. Or maybe there is some crossover and some are on drugs while being pimped out.

I'll agree that there is some bad apples in the bunch who cut corners and drive trucks that might be unsafe. The majority of 18 wheelers you see are very safe and operated by professionals. Trucks get pulled in for random mechanical/ weight inspections of the truck/trailer. Companies who operate these trucks can't afford to have junk rolling down the highways. The fines alone would kill them. They can also have their operating licence pulled. On top of that you're pissing of your customers. If a truck gets put Out Of Service at an inspection/weigh station, it means delays in freight delivery. Which equals unhappy customers.

But you guys are the experts! ;)
Some people have no clue at all.

we have MTO enforcement officers out on the highway 24/7 now..and they can and will pull over and inspect ANY commercial vehicle they want/feel is in violation of the HTA...they even have portable scales to see if they are over-weight on the Axles.

Most of the issues I see is from overloading...you should know the feel of an overweight truck...it is blatantly sluggish and doesnt handle right...but here you have trucks with sometimes 6 tonne over the maximum weight allowed!!it puts a strain on the brakes...Axles Hit the brakes and the strain will blow the bags right off it! and when your brakes go and lock up your wheels...good luck!
springs inside those Bags are deadly projectiles!
Just a question. Do you work for the MTO? Asking because you said you were called out to that truck that lost it's wheels.
I have never seen a brake pot come apart and have the spring explode but I do know what damage it could do if it did. They are built so they won't come apart but nothing is impossible. I believe it's 2000 lbs per square inch pressure on those brake pot springs.

I agree about the overweight problems! I'm glad the MTO is out checking trucks.

I run long haul so I pass plenty of scales. But I like seeing the MTO stopping local delivery/dump trucks who work only around the GTA!

We get these Doom and Gloom training courses all the time showing us what can happen...it would take a lot..but it does happen, I see the springs on the highway..and they are massive...so yeah they can cause some real damage. .
And Yes I do...

1 night we got a long hauler coming out of BC...running a dual trailer of brick and concrete blocks to Montreal.....We were all stunned that he made it to Ontario with his rig.....over 30 violations and the worst was he was so over weight even the heavy haulers couldnt pull both trailers...so we had 3 of them..1-tractor and 1 for each trailer..and the heavey haulers were struggling..
My concern was he lost his Right outside wheel on the 3rd axle...and he was up against the jersey wall and OPP didnt want to let it roll unless the tire was replaced.....problem was 2 fold...we couldnt find the tire cus it went over the wall on the Hoggs bridge and wound up on the golf course below...AND the whole rig was so heavy we were concerned about it SITTING on the Hoggs Bridge...LOL...what a cluster fuck!!!we wound up closing the highway for about 3 hrs til we were all clear

Oh crap!!!! *starts filling out log book*
I don't have to worry about that. We're satellite tracked and my logs match the satellite. Also once I leave Ontario, I try to stay out of it till it's time to go home again.

Like I said before, some guys out here are idiots! They run unsafe! They cause a wreck and all of a sudden all of us truckers are danger to society!

I have taken safety and brake courses in the past. We were told, never try to cut the ring off a brake chamber, you will probably die. Never seen brake springs on the road but lots of broken brake drums though. I had a brake drum crack and the entire centre detatch from the drum. It had only been on the truck about 2 months. Took to shop for a service and that's when it was noticed, so I had it replaced. Sometimes it doesn't matter how well you keep the truck maintained, parts can be defective and then shit happens. Been lucky so far.

There are some trucks I see on the road that make me shake my head and some of the drivers in them as well. I would mention what they are but would probably be called a racest, even though it's true.
