My wife drives the remote for the TV.
6-7pm Judge Judy- annoys me she wants to listen to people argue, but less off-putting that TV news casts.
Yes Wheel comes in at 7, but usually something from the 70's on Antenna TV for the half hour until Jeopardy comes on.
J I can mostly stand. But not Wheel. It is inane.

Here's Pat's take:

I heard about this, and I can understand why something like this happens. Many people say "feather in your hat," so when that wasn't the right answer, it messes up your mind. Plus, there is the stress about being on a nationally television game show that would make most people super self conscious about stuff. I do not think it's fair to slam people. To actually make it on the show they pass a difficult audition. They are fairly smart people. But the stress of the lights and camera really can do a number on people.

I doubt they are smart. I am guessing show looks for people who will entertain and unlike jeopardy they do not want intelligent people - just average that look good but not too good. I base this on the doc that I saw on the Price is Right which banned contestants for being too smart.

But like you said, even the smartest person under-stress can be an idiot. Plus from the clip it seems you make more money the longer you play so holding back from victory to make more bucks seems reasonable -but I am only going from the clip.

They didn't want anyone more sophisticated than Drew Carey. (One of his punchlines - I fucked your dog, I shit in your purse, I'm outa' here!)

It's a tiny stage and they have mics.

Why does everybody yell?
Likely they are told to do so by the director. Why ? Asks the director.

This reminds me of the time I was doing a spelling bee and I had to spell multiplication and I would’ve won the entire thing. And I remember thinking in my head I knew how to spell multi but I had to focus on the “PLICATION” … I was so nervous and focus on that part of the word that I keeps spelling it without the multi. Everyone was looking at me like I was insane. Ah, what fond memories. 😂

In a college students game, a guy had this on the board:

_ A _ T _ _ A

_ _ A _ _

_ _ _ _ _ _ A

and he says "I'd like to solve the puzzle. Daytona Beach, Georgia!". The first two words were correct.

On Wheel of Fortune, they'd want at least one of the contestants to be less intelligent than the average viewer. You know that the average WoF viewer is not that sophisticated, when a puzzle answer is "Comfy Onesie".

Here's a game show for less intelligent contestants:

Ya when I was working in Asia for a long time I started forgetting how to speaking English the first word I forgot was "Vanguard" it was so weird - I knew the word existed but I could not remember what it was.
