DUI With the company Car

My co worker and I were out for beers last week at lunch and he got pulled over and charged with blowing over 0.08.
So his company car got impounded for 7 days and he also got handed a 90 day suspension.

He doesn't want to tell the boss obviously cause he'll get fired, and wants to just risk driving when he has to during his suspension.

Will the cops know its him if they run his company car Tag? I think it will only come up as the leasing company but I'm not sure. it is the same car/plate he was arrested in.

Anyone know ?

I doubt they will seek him out...or ever know it is 'him'....

I would recommend he travel a slightly different route where cops are likely not going to hang.

KEEP driving to a minimum.

That said....he has to get thru 90- days of this.....and a subsequent fine/licence suspecnsion upon conviction!!

It is a risk.....may be worth it!!!

I guess he missed all those "if you drink don't drive" commercials.

Gotta wonder about any guy who downs enough beer on his lunch hour to blow over.

Your friend has more problems than just losing his license.

BTW, if you're charged with DUI, I thought you now have a crimnal record and you lose your license for minimum 1 year.

How often does he drive the company car ? I would think that if he needs to drive in within those 90's days and he can't his company will want to know why...

Nothing will happen to him unless he gets pulled over, they will run the plate and it will tell the cop who the car is registered to that's all.
When the cop knocks on his window and asks for his license, then he will start to sweet, heart will pound faster, and yes he will be fired from his job and the car will be impounded for anywhere between 30 - 90 days plus the fine and additional suspension. I know this for a fact, my exwifes friend had the samething and we borrowed her car, got pulled over and nothing was mentioned about the car bing involved in a DUI

Remember this Harry, The person your coworher kills could be wife, kids, mother or father, brother , sister......

Harry, to put it extremely mildly your co-worker is playing with fire.
Actually, both Harry and his coworker showed remarkably poor judgement. If the coworker gets fired, then so be it. He should just be happy that he didn't kill himself, Harry, another driver or pedestrian. The coworker shouldn't have driven, and Harry should have stopped him from driving.

I had to blow once with a company car.. I felt I was probably ok .. but you are never 100% sure. I blew 0.047 well under at the time. But it was pretty anxious. Yeah it was bad judgement. Honestly...he is best to get a fake cast on his right leg and say he cannot drive for a while.. and go on LTD.

Quick reality check here?

I think insurance companies get reports on things like DUIs etc. and they increase the premiums when it happens.

Do you think the accountants or the boss might notice a giant jump in the costs with a line item about DUI beside it?

Think they might be royally pissed when they discover no one came clean when it happened?

I think keeping it secret and driving a company vehicle while under suspension are grounds for dismissal with cause, even without the police catching him.

I suspect if you keep it a secret you will risk dismisal with cause as well.

The car report will come clean, however your right, the drivers history will come up at renewal time. Then he'll get early retirerment.

Are you for real?
Does your company cars have GPS units?
If the car was impounded, how did the two of you get back to work?
How is he getting to work?
Hasn't the boss asked about the car?
Are there not travel logs and expense submissions?

If the car has been impounded, doesn't the registered owner have to pick it up and pay tow and storage fees?
Did your co-worker not have to be taken to the station for further breath tests? paperwork?
Did your coworker contact a lawyer?
Is the car insured by the company or your co-worker?
Does he need a rider on his personal insurance to drive the company vehicle.
If the companies insurance and/or your co-workers insurance finds out have fun paying for insurance!
Did the PC not write down your co-workers driver's license number, address, insurance?
Does your co-worker not realize that the PC could show up at your workplace?

Does your workplace have a policy manual about company vehicles usage and responsibility?
Do you have any integrity not encouraging your co-worker to be honest with your employer?
Do you think that your employer won't punish you because you weren't driving, but you were drinking on the job?

There's something stinky here, smells like bullshit.

He's already there...he committed a criminal act by driving the car under the influence. Now he is exposing the company to massive liability by driving while suspended.. so IMHO faking in injury is probably less harmful then pretending it didn't happen. Either one is fraud, but driving under suspension is a much more serious legal violation then faking an injury.
