DJN: *DJ Gatorade Discontinues Tiger Woods "Focus" Subline -CNBC

DJN: *DJ Gatorade Says Move Has Nothing To Do With Woods' Recent Problems -CNBC

PepsiCo Inc.'s (PEP) Gatorade has discontinued its Tiger Woods-themed
subline, but the sports-drink maker says the action has nothing to do with
the golfer's recent troubles, CNBC reported Tuesday. The beverage maker told
CNBC it is discontinuing the Gatorade Tiger Focus line of beverages as well
as others to make way for new products in 2010. Gatorade has said its
relationship with Woods, who has been accused of several extramarital
affairs and has apologized for "transgressions," will continue.

Just a coincidence?

From the article:

Critics might say that Gatorade is just reacting to the recent news, but industry trade Beverage Digest actually reported the discontinuation of the Gatorade Tiger Focus line on Nov. 25, two days before the accident occurred.

Sounds pretty straightforward to me.

Yes. and this statement in the paragraph right before your quote...

" Gatorade said last week in a statement that its contract with Woods would continue."

Seems like they are using this as a way of completely dumping Tiger.

On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Greece
Nike will soon follow suit. One thing we all know about here is addictive sexual behavior and believe me this is only the tip of the iceberg. The vultures are circling and they are going to drag up every bit of dirt there is to find. And I imagine that there's tons more to come.

This has got to be the end for him from a sponsorship perspective.

TERB should grant Tiger honorary Hobby TERB status.....

He knows how to monger....

He's not paying for it though, so I think that might preclude him from honorary Terbite status...

On the other hand, the $60 million or whatever he is allegedly paying to Elin must certainly give him sort of status.

Really, I think that if Tiger had spent some time on Terb, he would have learned how paying the lady for her time is ALWAYS just a whole lot simpler...

All irrelevant. He will get through this. He will continue to win golf tourneys and no one will be able to ignore that. He remains a multi-millionaire, richer than any of us could even imagine, and he continues to be one of the planet's most dominant athletes. His prowess will ensure his continued success. Remember, he's not a politician who needs popular support to stay employed. He still has lots to fall back on, and the world will not be able to ignore him.

Not blowing smoke up his ass, and I could not care less about whether he remains popular or not. But, facts is facts.

You're vastly underestimating the damage to his brand.

It's now being identified that he's hooked up with pornstars. So you've got the porn angle that advertisers will cringe at. And if he paid for it (which he probably did cuz most pornstars are escorts on the side), he'll look even worse. Just wait until the pornstars spill the beans (and you know they will). Or wait until pictures of Tiger's cock start circulating the internet.

And the drug allegations really have hit home yet. Once that happens a lot of sponsors will back off, even if they don't want to.

Porn and drugs do not a wholesome image make.

Don't get me wrong, Tiger will (probably) continue on with his fame and fortune (unless he has a nervous breakdown, and from what I hear about his self-confidence, it's not an impossibility). But his glory days of endorsements are over.

People who hope Tiger will just weather the storm are deluding themselves. Tiger hopes that himself and I suspect he's lying low at the moment because there's no point trying to rehab his image when he knows there's a shitload more dirt still to come out.

AGREED!
I'm actually getting bits of Tiger's antics (jokes, pics, stories) from european friends...the continent that is VERY forgiving regarding sexual affairs. He will always be a great golfer...that is...as stated by KE...he doesn't lose it. I know I would...

Not necessarily. Imagine how distractnig and emotionally draining this must all be (and will be for some time). Maybe Jack's 18-majors record is safe!

Not if the Little Missus jambs a 3-wood up his ass!

I completely agree with you. A lot of the great "indigence" in the media is just show. Let's face it, most guys are quietly (i.e. out of earshot of their wives and g/fs) giving him the "Alright Tiger, you da man..."

Most women that I have talked to about this agree he's a philandering pig, but still think he's cute and dismiss his behaviour as part of the price of celebrity.

Tiger likely isn't much different that many guys in his position. Ten women? Who cares... that's a good month for most Terbites!

The sponsors will pull him from the air for a while until this passes and then slowly dust off the ads, based on focus groups' reaction.

He likely won't get back to where he was a month ago, but I don't think any of us needs to worry about poor Tiger's paycheque!

When I first heard about this I didn't think it would affect him at all because I figured he is still the best golfer around and that is what counts. But now it has turned from a highly publicized marital spat to a full blown media circus and these bimbos keep coming out of the wood work. He appears to be just as aggressive off the course as he is on it, in terms of his conquests and it is just becoming increasingly embarassing for him, his family, and ultimately his sponsors.
Also, his book "How To Maintain A Happy Marriage" appears to be doomed to lacklustre sales because of this.
