How are they paid, what is fair payment for their services? I am going to need a few in the new year.

Well Miles, I guess no one who knows ANSWERED in an hour...sheesh, a little impatient are we?
Anyhow, from my experience in discussing pricing with various agencies, the typical rate is around $20.00 per call downtown, and increases depending on how far they have to drive.
Some agencies are upping their rates now to make up for the increase in fuel costs....so if I were budgeting for a driver, I'd start at $25.00 per call.
If you're going to be busy, being a driver isn't all that bad. But it is a REAL pain in the ass when you have one girl on one call for 2 hrs somewhere out in BF ontario. I did this for a couple of ladies and the calls were too far for a trip back home, and not long enough to warrant going home so I just hung around for the 2 hrs .....it sucked let me tell you. Now, like I said, if you're going to have girls travelling all over, then it is another story.....

Ah yes... my driver days/nights...
Miles: I use to be a driver years ago in Ottawa. Back then the going rates was $10. each way less then 15kms and $15. each way if over 15kms. For 1/2 hr call there was no waiting time charged. If it was an one hour call and the SP wanted the driver to wait close by there was a $10. waiting charge. I hear the charges are a bit more now like $15. less then 15kms and $20. if over. We also had an hourly rate. The hourly rate for in the city was $20. per hour and on the highway $40. per hour. Some of the ladies would hire drivers by the hour for shopping trips for example. The driver would stay with the lady at all times on calls like that. You know the usual stuff... carry their bags etc and make sure she is watched out for and nobody bothers her. On the highway jobs it was double the rate because most of the time if long distance it was a one way trip so the driver had to drive back empty. For example I use to drive down to The Falls often with 1 or 2 dancers, drop them off at The Downer and return in two weeks to pick them up again.
