Drake and MLSE

Why does MLSE continue to associate with this gangsta? Anyone check out the video of his posse blocking traffic during TIFF and threatening others while he sits in the back of his Maybach? He won't respond to the police asking him to encourage people to come forward in the murder of his friend? And now this? Money can't buy integrity or morality. Drake is a piece of shit who cares for nothing but money and how cool he can appear at any given moment. I guess that's why he's joined at the hip with MLSE!

Drake is many things, but gangsta isn't one of them. He's actually a well spoken nerdy guy that grew up in one of Toronto's elite neighborhoods.

Drake gained fame by turning his music into a melting pot. Get beyond the lyrics, the music is very interesting with African, Caribbean rhythms. There's even some Cantor hymns thrown in for good measure. I'm very impressed with what he's doing. The Weeknd is doing the same thing, using the music of his native Ethiopia in his songs.

Aside, HOLLYWOODG how old are you? We don't need teenies on this board - GTFO.

...there's a good smattering of ska in this song.

HOLLYWOODG vamonos!

Hotline Bling, heavy ska rhythms and he throws in a Hammond organ just to get the point across. Shrewd, very shrewd.

....he was dating Serena Williams at the time. ;)

Exactly.

He's loving this loose association with "ganstas". He thinks it gives him the street cred he sorely lacks in life to be a real rappa.

First - I would have let the one of the two other vechiles hit me when that other guy got back in the first one. I could use a new paint job. I do hope they get slammed more for this but that leads me to my second point since that is what is making the rounds to the major news outlets.

Second - the police need to do their jobs and not rely on a public figure to make tweets. The guy is grieving himself. Now I get it is easy to make a tweet and some would think him an ass for not doing so but making this news worthy, making comments to the press about your disappointment etc is just celeb hating and trash talk. The police and the mayor need to fuck off with that bullshit.

Totally agree.. I highly doubt that a tweet from Drake is really gonna make any difference. I am pretty sure if there is someone out there with knowledge about the killing, they would have spoken up by now. I don't think they are waiting for permission from Drake. Sometimes these Government officials say such stupid things that it worries me about what they actually do at their jobs.

Thanks

It has nothing to do with "permission." Perhaps they think the Raptor's "global ambassador" has some influence on those who might not otherwise come forward.

Correction. This guy is the real Raptors ambassador.

They can have that opinion all they want, does mean it is right for them to publicly hold news conferences to tell Drake to do it, or to slam him for not doing it.

Besides, anyone who has some cells floating around in there head, know that these celebs have other people posting their shit. Most of the time. Trump is an exemption of course, however I think the WH would love to have someone else on the payroll for that job.

Yea they can and have slammed him a little for not. There is a lot more linkage than you seem to realize or have cared to investigate as well as the power of fandom, but that's ok, your celeb loving harping about not tweeting falls on deaf ears, he should have tweeted, its his moral obligation as a human.

If you can lend your voice to chirp about the raptors, then you can lend your voice to curb gun violence.

I sense a double standard here, when did Drake become Doug Ford?

He's not the first celebrity to showboat at TIFF and most certainly wont be the last. I missed the OVO Fest story, it's tragic but I don't see how Drake is complicit. The shooting happened at an after party, Drake isn't obligated to provide security for an after party. They are pop up events you attend at your own risk. It's sad that two young people lost their lives, however anything happening beyond The Molson Amphitheater, they are on their own. And West Parkdale is a high crime neighbourhood, it hasn't become artsy like the eastern half.

So why does Hugh Hefner get a pass on his misdeeds but Drake (allegedly) doesn't. Is it the colour of his skin?

Ok after further review I have to give Drake props for continuing with the OVO Fest. After the Muzik shooting I suspect he had to deal with a hefty insurance increase. He didn't cancel, I give him credit for that. He's been a great ambassador for our city and our vibrant musical culture. He should be commended not rubbished.

Like I said before, Drake (more accurately his insurance coverage) is responsible for what happens at The Molson Amphitheater. Anything beyond that and you're on your own.
