You guys are all missing the forest for the trees (or the $24 two-four for the single glass of micro brew). Don’t you remember Premier Doug standing up for the little guy by introducing the “buck a beer” nonsense back in the Summer? HUGE savings for the little guys who make up Ford Nation. Even with the cancellation of their $1/wage increase they will come out ahead. LOL!

How is negotiations around pay not fair and balanced. You post a job, you offer a wage, if no one takes it you increase the wage. If someone applies and you really want them you pay more so you don’t lose them. This happens to me all the time, I interview 6-7 people, often one really stands out and I pay a premium because I want them.

The issue is if the job can be done by a kiosk then anyone can do it and you pay as little as you have to. Also, Kiosks don’t call in sick when they have a hangover.

How many of the interviewees in your example are looking at your minimum wage jobs, and how many do you offer bump-ups to from minimum? I can't see the relevance to the discussion otherwise.

If anyone can do the job, then "as little as you have to" might as well be set by law for everyone, as by a particular employer's calculations and perceived needs. You can still bump them up, and they can still ask.
