Because music affects people more profoundly. It sets the tone of one's youth. It is usually the fislrst act of rebellion to authority. It is the usually the first means of people finding self identity. Its been a couple weeks now since Ozzy and the Hulkster kicked it back to back.
It seems the response has been vastly different. Ozzy seems like an objectively terrible human being....yet it seems like he has been held up as a great loss.
Hogan was also far from perfect...but it seems on social media we have built a cottage industry of calling out every past indiscretion.
Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember any large scale redemption from Osbourne. Is it recency bias? Hogans inappropriate comments were not that long ago.
Is it over the top wokeism........ wherein racism is the greatest of all evils, therefore comments about your daughter's black boyfriend are somehow worse than beating your wife nearly to death or torturing a dove for the theatrics of it.
I am in no way defending Hulk Hogan here.....I just find the imbalance in the response odd.
Also for the record... Crazy Train IS an all time banger.
And Black Sabbath and Ozzy were part of defining 2 generations immediately. And then more later on. He was a part of crafting songs that continue to be found and resonate with people.
Hulk was Hulk. But he will not achieve the same legacy in the end. Thats the deference.
Can you name the Oscar winners of 70 years ago? The top box office? No. You can't. Maybe 3 movies a year achieve some sort of iconic status. Same with bands.
Ozzy is a part of a rare class of people who will be known for generations imo. Time is the only judge on this.
