Donating organs, your thoughts.

I’m curious to know what people think about donating organs in the event of your death? Would you fill out the donator card?

Personally I look at it this way.
Let’s say I get into a bad car accident. They rush me to the hospital and start working on me. Now, would the doctors go above and beyond to try and save my life? Hard to say? Because they’ll see that I’ve signed away “X” number of organs. So these doctors may look at it this way. “Well we could save him.... or help “X” number of people.”..... It's quite the conundrum...

Also I was always curious what organs are on this list? Obviously the vital ones but what about you cock? Maybe some woman undergoing a sex change could make use of it?

Yep, I think the same way...I've donated all my organs in the event of my death. I had someone very close to me die while they were waiting for an organ. :-( I think everyone should do it.

Well doctors take oaths to do no harm so I would hope that their first priority is your health first before your organs going somewhere else.

I decided to register for the donation program a couple of years ago...like you guys have mentioned, it's not like I can take it with me, and I would rather do something nice if I can when I go. The only thing I kept was skin because if I was to die, I wouldn't want to put my family through the trauma of a completely mutilated body. The other parts they won't "miss"...

You do make a good point, doctors (most, I hope) take an oath. Do what ever you can to save your patient. I was contemplating whether I should fill the card out but with everyone's comments it's stupid not to, really. Yes there a chance the doctor could go against his oath but I think those odds are slim.
And like you "Casa Nova" I would be donating my skin or face in the fear of causing trauma to friends and family. Imagine having an open casket without a face . I guess they could put a mask over my head with an air brush likeness of my face.

I have no fear that the Emergency Room staff are not going to not try as hard to save my life because I'm an organ donnor.

I have an irrational fear of people taking stuff from me, ( as many people do ) but the truth of the matter is that if it is not taking soon after your passing it goes to waste and eventually turns to dust.

I think it's key that the family know before hand in order to avoid added stress to the family when the physicians bring it up and they are already dealing with whatever situation that made us land in the hospital.

I've always assumed they would want to make sure my ass stays dead to help somebody else. Probably the right choice.

Beyond religious beliefs (which are beyond argument or discussion) I cannot conceive any reasonable argument against donation of every useful body part after death.

What the OP is really asking about is not organ donation, but dying and death, and how to control that when you're helpless and in the hand of your physicians and whoever has your power of attorney for personal care.

You do have such a person don't you? If you don't that's what you should be thinking about, not donation.
