Not surprising. Even though I think he is a good man, when ownership spends as much as they did, it is fair to expect better results.

Mattingly needs to trim those sideburns.

Why would the Dodgers fire a manager like Mattingly?

The manager does not pitch, hit, run or catch... it is all the players' fault. The manager has very little to do with how the team performs.

The Dodgers simply don't have owners or experienced, senior management who know anything about baseball and managing a team!

Several people on this board are much more knowledgeable: they should buy the Dodgers and show them how things should be done!

Coaches have always been the scapegoats for owners since the advent of teams sports ...
simply put..ya cant fire 25 players so the manager/coach gets canned....I would think the GM/D of BBO should also be fired...since they were the ones who gave the players(tools) to the manager/coach to work with

$289M payroll, someone always takes the hit and it is almost always the manager/ coach.
The Dodger players loved playing for him, he had a good regular season record. He
will get one of the current vacancies and be successful again. The Yankee pedigree and
7 years learning at the knee of Joe Torre will have another team for him.

The Dogers pitching staff was the problem. You have Grienke and Kershaw, after that they were week. Typical of a manager being a scapegoat. They gave all they gave so much money to two pitchers, they had no money left for the rest of the pitching staff, but of course they still should have won the WS and they didn't so it's Mattingly's fault.
