Cabarete - avoid, since it's a family destination. Good windsurfing though.
Sosua - not bad, if you like chocolate.
Another destination is Santiago, which is 1.5 hours away from Sosua - lots of fair skin girls here and 3 good venues for picking up hot chicks. My favorite destination in the DR.
Punta Cana - avoid. Never read any good reviews about the place.

I've never been here, but this place in in Puerto Plata area.
Tried getting in there once a few years ago on short notice, but could not get a same-day reservation. (Was working in the area, was not staying at an all-inclusive).
If you do decide to TOFTT, I'd love to hear a review of the place.

I recently went to the DR and found out it is not really my scene for hobbying but is an awesome place for active fun. However, some experiences of mine may help.
1/ cabarete is an awesome place and i enjoyed it immensely (kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and sailing every day).
As far as the scene goes just walk up to the main street after midnight and you will be accosted very quickly. However, the coolest thing to do is hit the beach bars and approach every hot latin girl. Take her for a dance, chat for a bit and you have a 50/50 chance of a freebie (These bars are filled with friendly locals and pro's and you never know which one is which if you speak very little spanish ).When you ask to take them home is when you find out if pesos are involved. If none of the local girls interest you go talk to the hundreds of tourists who are also generally looking for a good time.
Sosua- If you are purely looking to hobby then that is what this town is all about. Typical bar/brothels along the main strip. This place can be a little intimidating at first as all the doorman had guns (only semi-hidden) and there have been some pretty big riots there in the past.Having said that I personally had no issues walking around.
Otherwise, for me pretty boring place
other points: check the hotel you are staying at about their guest policy. My hotel was not guest friendly and it takes a lot of bribing and coercion to get them in. if you go to the DR to hobby invest in a couple of spanish lessons. The girls love it when you try to speak spanish and will in all likelihood charge you less if you negotiate a bit.

1st Night Puerto Plata (Feb 14, 08)
Arrived in the afternoon to Puerto Plata. Found reliable cab driver with a bit of English, also hired him as translator. ( for a couple of beer and a good tip on the taxi price ) He brought me to the local " Dance club " didn't felt threaten at any time, in fact they seemed to be happy to have a Gringo in their place. Was treated like a King. Good choice of Girls, choose Michelle a mulatro with a very nice figure. ( In case someone goes there I still have the name of the place and also the Cell # for Michele, however you will need someone to translate, which could also be arranged as I also have the Name and cell phone # of the taxicab driver )
Negotiated price for Tota la Noche ( all night ) they had me at $4000 DRP
(about $118.00 CDN dollars) could had easily lowered down to $3,000, but I didn't wanted to create animosity and what the heck the price was good compared to Canada.
Before going upstairs asked the taxi cab driver to pick me up the next day at
9h00. A.M.
We went upstairs, Full metal door on the room with a freaking big lock, was kind of reassuring, bath in the room but no running water, apparently this part of the town was out of it since awhile. She however had a water reserve in the bath and we were both able to clean up. These girls seems to take pride in been clean. We had to put the clean sheet on the bed for the night, and began the party time, by BBBJ and followd by the usual, pretty receptive girl and language wasn't a problem. Truly enjoyed my night with her
she was definitively the most G.F. girl that I meet in DR. Didn't slept much that night, but even with the lack of sleep, had a pretty good smile in the
morning. As per request the taxicab was there as requested at 9h00 A.M. Cost back to the All inclusive where I was staying was $10.00 U.S.
Very good first night after all.-

2nd Night Puerto Plata ( Feb 15, 08 )
Another outing from the all Inclusive resort to Downtown Puerto Plata. Was lead this time to Crystal, which is a downtown Strip Club. ( those who know the P.P., scene are aware that these are the same owner as the all inclusive + Ladies place Mustang Ranch)
Arrived there around 10h00 p.m. surprisingly there was not too many Client on the spot, maybe it was early for the local scene, but before I was seated even before my beer was on the table, was surrounded by about 12 dancer who wanted to offer their service. Wasn't expecting such Welcome and it could be quite impressing to have all those Ladies surrounding you at the same time, never lived it here anyway. They wouldn't take a NOT NOW later for an answer, at which point I realized that if I wanted to drink my beer quietly and relax a bit before the main event, was better to make an immediate choice. Finally decided on one and seated her on my lap in order to get rid of the others. Could I take my beer quietly? Not as much as I would had wanted, as she was ready for action. Dealt the matter with the manager, price was high for D.R. at $100.00 U.S. for an hour but was at that point ready for action. So we went upstairs, room was not much bigger than the bed, no air conditionning. Experience was not very pleasant, possibly cause of all the pushing and rushing around. Had requested my taxicab driver to be back in about an hour, and appreciated when saw him arriving into the door.
Overall experience was no repeat, but as I found out a bunch of fellow of about 8 guy's were going there almost every night and seemed to enjoy it. For me it was definitively a no repeat.

3rd Night: How to get Ripped-Off 101
Simple, you can be Horny as hell, and feel that something is wrong.
You can be drunk like a skunk and maybe feel that something is wrong.
But man, Horny and Drunk, that's like asking for the 3rd Strike.
Went simply like this, at the all inclusive was having discussion with T.O. guy who was having the same interest in the hobby as I had. Having evaluated the availability that night our expectations of any fun was around minus 5. At this point I was able to drag my ars to the entrance bar of the resort
which is the only place were local girls are admitted on the compound. Don't even think to bring one to your room as all the access point after the entrance bar are checked by security guards. There was about 4 local girls there, one being big and strong enough to beat the crap out of me every day of the week. As for the others, I would had given them a big 4, but before I needed to take a few more drinks.
Then Ta-dam, by magic a local asked me if I would be interested in meeting some cute ladies, how could I resist such offer ? Kept on drinking and drinking, in between my T.O.buddy arrived at the bar, as he was more drunk then me therefore it took it more time to get there.
An hour and many drinks later those Hot babies arrived at the bar, WOW ! 7-8+ Party time, price were set, my buddy choose one and being the man that I felt I was that night I took 2 He-Ha! They even had rooms available and a Taxicab waiting. On our way to a night of pleasure ! We naturally had 2 separate rooms, my buddy on the second floor and our threesome to 3rd level. As soon as in the room the first girl went to the shower while I was enjoying the appetizers, then our turn, the appetizer and me. Almost right out of the shower, the cell phone of one of one of my beauty of the night started ringing, my buddy was sick and had to be brought to the Hospital, by the time I found him sound asleep, the chica's had miraculously vanished.
We then figured out that it would be a good idea to check our wallets. Yep back down to Earth, they had been emptied. Well almost, as they had left me just enough Pesos to be able pay the Cab back to the resort. Thanks Girls !
Moral of this story: Don't drink and drive, DOH !, I mean don't get Drunk, horny and pick-up girls that appears from heaven.... ( Yes I am still ashamed ) but consider it as TOFTT.

Locals show up...dressed to the nines. Lots of vacationers so not pushy...but if you want they seek you out.
Hooked up with one...cabbed to a rather dingy area 10 minutes out..Cinder block walls.. $100 American. Very little water from a copper pipe only to the cement floor.
She and I get out of room..waves at a gringo..they were swarming all over the complex. Gringo wheels up on a motorcycle...I pay $10 to fly down the road helmetless...on the back of this smoke beching bikje... back to my all inclusive.

$100.00 american, for what you had. Sorry Bud but that's highly paid for Dominican Republic, only place with these prices was in Puerto Plata, at the Chrystal. It's a strip Club were you can bring the girl up-stairs, even there you can negotiate F.S. with the Manager for about $80.00
As for the Moto Concho, well you are braver than me, at the price of the taxi. I would never dare riding one of those mosquito killers ( 2 strokes motorcycle, with enough fume in the back to kill any flying insects.)
Other good place is Los Maria downtown Puerto Plata. Pay the beer + tip to the taxi cab driver and he will stay with you to translate and cover your back. The Doormans have metal detector which should prevent any guns or knife to be brought inside.
If you are adventurous and want to stay overnight with the girl it will cost you around $75.00. The door of the girls room is a metal door with a real lock from the inside, made me a bit more secure. Had requested that my taxi come back to pick me up at 9h00 a.m. the next day. As per their habits he was there "around" the time set.
For those less adventurous, about 20 minutes from Downtown Puerto Plata there is the famous Barba Negra aka Black Beard. Just do a search on Google and you will find their site. Only problem is that they are requesting reservation about 2 months ahead, however you can do as I did, take a chance and call to check if they have a room available. As I called during the week, was able to get a room for 2 nights at that place. ( $55.00 US/night) Around 20 girls for all types every night. Apart from the room, a girl for the full night was $80.00 from around 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. part of the etiquette is that you pay the breakfast to the girl the next morning (less than $5.00) - Just P.M. me if you want the phone # of my taxicab driver, as I was alway's taking the same, young kid around 22 years old, with understandable english, and very reliable.

I always say you get what you pay for, drnights is upscale and safe.

highly reccomend DR Nights...my husband and I have been to this resort, we had the best time, we met all the girls and I have to say, we had a choice of 7 girls during our stay, however China and I clicked and I did not allow my husband to change her out, she stayed with us the whole stay,, here is a pic for you guys.. have fun
