''If you look at the spectrum of energy and how we’re going to provide and meet the demand in a zero emitting industry, its not going to happen through wind and solar. It has got to be technology like this that is advanced and improved.”

I see no other option as well.

At least when Kathleen Wynne invested in windmills they existed, worked and were on the market.

Not so for the nukes DoFo is pushing.
He really is outdoing her at every chance.

Great idea! Nukes run day & night, and in good weather and bad. Not to mention the jobs nuke plants generate both temp & permanent. Did I mention nuclear power is reliable and emissions free?

Renewable wind and solar has a nice warm fuzzy feel to it but @0.78 kw/h price rates for wind and solar your $200 monthly hydro bull would be about $1,800 month.

If it is possible to build nuclear power plants that didn't have such quadruple cover your ass regulatory and bad "touchy feely-scary" press, it would be about $0.05 kw/h and the spent fuel could be safely sequestered until the end of time.

Wasn't Kathleen Wynne part of some provincial political party that used to exist in Ontario in the past?

You could nuke just Toronto, or the GTA, that would be acceptable.

You can see the latest tenders for Green power here:

https://www.windpowermonthly.com/tender-watch

Bids are sometimes under 3 cents per KWH. And its nonsense that renewables cannot cover all our needs. Wind alone has the potential to cover 11x our needs in 2050. Its a matter of gridscale batteries and wider deployment. These 3 bozos are clueless.

Nuclear is more expensive then solar these days.
How many new plants are going in compared to solar and wind globally now?

First off, nuclear is a federally regulated rather than provincial.
Second, Harper sold AECL to SNC Lavalin so there is no Crown corp involvement in this. As a result, if it happens at all, it will have to be a PPP (much favoured by Conservatives) and as we know nobody benefits from these as much as the private element.
Third, they are talking about unproven nuclear reactors known as SMR's. These cost hundreds of millions rather than billions. There are no operating SMR's anywhere in the world and only only 2/3 under construction.
Fourth and finally, there is no need for adding nuclear when renewable is barely tapped.

Ontario has a power surplus now. An ideal time to invest in grid scale batteries so we can sell power at favorable times.

These are small nuke devices, not big plants. It is just a hair brained plan someone sketched on a napkin for the premiers to pose as nation builders. Dofo thinks he's Bill Davis now...LOL! Really trying re-make his image, but it is a pathetic attempt by a dumb thug posing as a statesman. Meanwhile we pay the billion for his alternate energy program cancellations.... Duh!
All the premiers really did was demand more federal cash..... damn conservative welfare bums!

I'll have to check out how far Premiere Ford's anti green agenda goes for myself.

There is a giant wind farm near Chatsworth on Hwy 6, it's been supplying electrical power to the near by towns (Owen Sound, Wiarton, Southampton....) for several years. If they shut it down rates in the region will skyrocket.

I would rather have Doug Ford as Prime Minister than Andrew Scheer.

It does not matter how small they are, they will still need to be secured, and will still have the serious waste disposal problems of large scale reactors. Also Canada does not have the politcial clout to market these things globally.

Nuclear is expensive to build and we still don;t know what to do with waste but the CANDU style reactors are a realistic option (and no, they are nothing like Chernobyl and we're not Fukishima).
