Does the Canadian flag mean something different to you since the convoy?

Cheers for sharing your story. But I can't help but noticing that what you really love about Canada is the people. People and the system we have here have made your life great in Canada -- and my life, too.

A flag had nothing to do with that.
The flag is the representation of the people and system. Be proud of it and wave it proudly, as I do, whenever you can.

It always amazes me how many people think the people protesting for ideas they disagree with are evil idiots and those protesting ideas they agree with are brilliant heroes, and can't understand that it's a matter of perspective.

As far as I'm concerned, any protest that deliberately and negatively impacts everyday people is counterproductive, whether that's a Native protest blocking a major highway or a trucker protest blocking a cross-border bridge. In fact, I told a freedom convoyer straight to his face that they fucked up when they decided to blockade the bridge. He thought it was great, and didn't understand that it would force the government's hand. He genuinely thought the government would capitulate!

While I personally supported the lockdowns as a way to prevent our health system from collapsing, that doesn't mean that those who didn't were wrong. Florida took a much different approach outside of the initial lockdown and you could definitely argue merits of that approach too, from kids being able to learn more effectively in the classroom to businesses being able to remain open rather than shutter their doors, just to name two. And from the stats I see, Florida's overall per capita death rate from COVID is akin to New York, one of the most aggressive states on lockdowns, and Rhode Island, which is the top mainland state for vaccinations. I'm also personally vaccinated, but got a very uncomfortable feeling with vaccine mandates that force people to chose between their livelihood or injecting a brand new vaccine that was pushed out under extraordinary pressure where the developers are almost entirely immune from legal ramifications of any emerging short-, mid- or long-term issues and have insane financial incentive to get the product out quick. Seems to me pretty reasonable to balk at such mandates, even if I personally accepted them.

My biggest issue with these truck drivers driving around isn't that they're flying the Canadian flag, it's that they're flying a flag that says "Fuck Trudeau" on them. While I regularly have that thought myself, flying such a message in public is crass and I don't approve of it.

Nuanced and well written.

I tend to agree with just about everything you wrote.

Well done.

I never thought about it on peoples cars. I do feel patriotic when I see giant Canadian Flags flying a few plazas out here in Durham Region.

After reading this thread, I will probably look at car flags differently now. LOL.
I don't know anymore what to think when I see a flag on a vehicle, patriot or protester?

Besides the dick head MAGA-type racists, most of the protesters are patriots who believe the country is headed in a wrong direction. They are proud to be Canadians, which is why they wave the Canadian flag. More power to them

Sorry to have put this in your head.
With Canada Day coming it's even more confusing.

What was not confusing was an idiot I saw recently whose van was covered in stickers that said "F*** Trudeau", "We The Fringe" PPC and Convoy stickers, I was embarrassed to even be on the same road with this guy.
Serious question - Do people pay for the F Trudeau stickers? If you invested a single penny into something so stupid (not to mention putting it on what for most is their second most valuable possession behind their home), you really should reexamine your life. You can hate our Prime Minister but to display something so shameful..... It's embarrassing and you really need help.

Ah that free speech thing rears it's ugly head again. Heaven forbid.

Well look at the bright side. Justin and his NDP pals are working hard to force everyone to conform to their moral high ground that they occupy.

So pretty soon you'll have that utopian leftist world that you want so bad..........

I said it’s embarrassing, I never said they didn’t have the right to waste their money on stickers.
I have the freedom to espouse my philosophical opinions to random stop signs.
It doesn’t mean my rights are being infringed if people think I have lost my mind.
