This is in respects to the thread "Any fat terbites out there?"
https://terb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=179441

I was half asleep when I wrote this I know I put quite were quit should have been sorry

If I missed a variable in the Poll just make a post with your statement

When I say losing weight you can not chop a limb off or do something drastic

I made a statement to guy today that made a rude comment about an overweight lady.
This guy smoked so I said yes she may needed to lose some weight but it is not easy like quitting smoking.
He laughed and said no way quitting smoking is a way harder .I laughed back and said I quit smoking years ago it was not a hard as the media lets it on to be. I even quit harder substances but that is beside the point. I basically said anything you can do without ever really needing again is not that hard, but you can not quit food. Also integrating a good workout schedule is a pain in the ass sometimes.
I said look at Opera he is a Lady with unlimited resources. She could have trainers, Dietitians, cooks etc. She isn’t thin even when she was at he lightest and that didn’t last.

They are both damn hard to do as they can both be addictions. I will say that losing weight is easier because I have managed to keep weight off longer than I have been able to stay off cigarettes. The damn catch 22 in the situation is that most people turn to food to satisfy their nicotine cravings while quitting smoking, but being a large guy like myself, well, that isn't such a good option.

How come at this time there are 3 posts and 2 votes LOL usually there are more votes and fewer posts.

I would think as addictive as smokes can be you can totally do without them and you were not born with one in your hand but you are born with some fat.
You will more then likely survive if you totally quit smoking.
You will not service if to totally quit eating

"Loose" should be "lose", "then" should be "than". ;)

Addictions are different for each person, some have no problem with quitting - others simply can't do it.
Many people who have managed to kick heroin still can't quit with cigarettes.

Not ever being a smoked i can't say for sure...but I've gone through similar things with other substances that are addictive....so I'm going from that

I would think that quitting smoking would be easier because quitting smoking is just ONE thing. In order to successfully lower your weight (permanently) requires an entire change of lifestyle for most of us.

Years ago there was a British study that showed that the chemical reaction that happens at the end of your nerve synapses is stronger with nicotine then with heroin. The conclusion was that it is "easier" to quit a heroin addiction.

As far as weight goes I think that there are many more factors that make weight loss harder. For example, in my blood tests my testosterone and human growth hormone levels are measurably less at 53 than when I was 45. One consequence of lower HGH is that your metabolism slows down so unless you adjust your diet it is going to be harder to burn off the same 500 calories as you age. My Dr suggested HGH injections, to boost my metabolism, at a mere $380 a month. I am looking for natural alternatives...shout out if you have any.

I have to agree with trisket. It depends on the person who is addicted. They can both be incredibly tough. As noted, many people say nicotine is harder to quit than heroin, even if withdrawal is not quite as dramatic. Nicotine patches and gum make it a lot easier than it used to be. That's how I managed it. But then I believe there are drugs such as amphetamines or diet pills that can alter metaboic rates for weight loss as well. I think for both it is a real mental challenge and involves a change in attitude towards yourself, and your self image.

Losing weight requires time and effort. Quiting smoking requires will power and effort. What do you have more of?

It's very hard to do both at the same time, mainly because smoking increases the metabolic rate, so stopping smoking means that more activity burns fewer calories, at least in the short term.

Yes, food is a necessity, and nicotine is not, but high calorie foods are not a necessity. Going to the corner store by car is not a necessity. For most people, 45 minutes a day of brisk walking should be enough to maintain their current weight. More than that will take some off. Finding the 45 minutes or more for daily walking and actually devoting that time to excercise is hard for most people, but not as hard as trying to quit smoking.

If you're serious about weight loss, the best thing to do is get a dog. Then you have to do some walking, unless you want to let him shit in the car.

I've found that since my dog died, I get far more exercise. She was a slow curious plodder who stopped and sniffed scents every 2 feet.

Now I'm walking at my own brisk pace and cycling daily in good weather.

I’ve both quit smoking and lost my excess weight (50 pounds). Neither was easy but in both cases it was simply a matter of exercising my will. I firmly believe that those who can’t do either are simply weak willed and that is the root of their problem.

As for losing weight, it was simply a matter of gluttony and laziness. Once I started eating better and exercising more, the weight came off rapidly. So get off your fat ass and cut out the junk food. No, I don’t mean cut down – stop eating that shit.

Quitting smoking was hardest for the first few weeks. The withdrawal was terrible and I felt so sick. It got gradually easier. After about a year I no longer had any serious cravings. It’s been 7 years now.

Now to answer the question about which is easier. Once you get past the first stages of quitting smoking then it becomes easy. I don’t even think about smoking now. Losing weight is harder over the long run because that needs a permanent lifestyle change. And people are always trying to get you to eat cakes at dessert and whatnot but I refuse even at the risk of them feeling insulted.

Now I look better, feel better, and can fuck like a rabbit for hours without losing my breath. Totally worth it.

Stop making excuses and just do it.

A great tip, if you want to lose weight: Don't eat anything, (vegetables don't count here), after 6 PM. Give your body the opportunity to burn off the newly added calories before it has the opportunity to turn them into fat.

It is highly individual...

....but I would say smoking is easier to control.

I am a very NOT thin, non-smoker. I appreciate that nicotine is hugely addictive, BUT you can go cold turkey (or with the patch, etc) while you cannot go 'cold turkey' with food!
