With apologies - what a Toronto-centric idea. There are plenty of places in Ontario where one can't get a decent cell phone signal, and broad band internet (other than by Satellite) is unavailable.
Good point.

Back some time there were areas in TO that were out of reach for cell reception, but I haven't experienced many lately, except in some deep dark basement or computer centres. The DVP was one of them. If so, is it also with a particular provider? I might want to move there.

Got rid of my landline. Was tired of being harassed constantly at home by telemarketers.
I don't get many of those any more, mind you call display helps. The last bunch were from that company from Buffalo telling me that my car warranty was in jeopardy. I haven't registered on the no call list as it's so full of holes and exceptions; it's not worth it to me.

An AWG 'FORK OFF' really loud does get the message through and you feel great afterward.

It's worth it to have both. Remember the last times the shit hit the fan, 9/11 and the blackout? At least one of them have to work some time.
cordless are great providing you can charge them. One hard wired phone somewhere in the house, even in the laundry room where looks don't matter is worth it. I think it $25.00 well spent.

Hey, do you use Ooma in Canada? If so, do you care to explain how? Do you have a US # and account?

Sorry, no - I'm in the states. Awesome product though.

If you sign up for the Do Not Call list, that stops most of them. There was a site where you could check off various others that are normally exempt (newspapers, charities etc.). No way to avoid political calls though >_<. A landline still has use in case of something major happening... the system can be overloaded, but it's much less likely to go down in the event of a disaster than a cell phone. That's only a minor point, and the reason I still have a landline is that cell reception is terrible where I am.

edit: I have gotten telemarketer calls on my cell, which pisses me off to no end, and is illegal. If you get a telemarketer call on a landline and you're on the DNC, you can file a complaint that could lead to big fines for the caller.
