Most of the tradesmen working in Alberta at Fort McMurray will make over 100k a year. But its not much of a life, working 6 or 7 days a week, staying in a camp.
O.
I work in Fort Mac for 20 days and my company flies me home for 8 days off. I live in a camp where all my meals are provided and my room is cleaned everyday by a cleaning staff. After work, I can visit the gym, pub, games room or recreational facilities such as the rink or basketball court. It can be difficult at times to be away from your family but it's not all bad. I'm still an apprentice and a clear more than $5000 for the 20 days that I work. I have friends out here who make more than $7000/week. If you do it right, you can work for 5 to 10 years and then go home and retire.

I dropped out of high-school and completed my education after 10 years of heavy construction work. I also went bankrupt but I refused to declare. Although I wont state how much I earn, I will say that my early hardships have taught me never to gorge out on credit. These days I can afford high-end sp's, smoke expensive cigars and sip 16 year old single malt. I have no complaints.

When I think life hasn't always been a bed of roses, all I need do is look at the posts a number of you have made. You definately have had a harder road, and are to be commended for where you are now!

I know lots of real estate agents and most of them make well over $100 K (net). Many have not completed post-secondary school.

I stayed in school a long time, sometimes I wish I hadn't, other times I am thankful I did. I do OK money wise, but will likely never be rich working in my current gig. Not going to state my salary but I will say I am fairly comfortable in my life.

Sure.. I have a couple of friends that are Millrights... both have made as much as $160K with overtime.

On the downside, both were in the auto industry. One has taken a package as the plant in Widsor was closing. The other has been laid off and is likely going to be offered a package.

Big bucks when they work, then long periods of unemployment seems to be pretty standard in some trades...

I know a guy that quit high school in his third year and he now makes over $200k. a year in his clothing business.
He was an entrepreneur. In order to start a business you must be committed, go through the investment process and fight to succeed. Unless he hit the lottery and did not become complacent, he had funding from Mom, Dad, aunts, uncles, credit cards, SB loans, anything and pushed and pushed with contacts and customers to make it successful.

I will tell you this. Anyone can do it, but many don't make it because they quit or other factors come in. But if you are a University graduate (rather than a non-University graduate) you have a huge advantage over this kid and his $200K **revenue** (not net income) business.

Good Luck.

Funny, after skimming through this thread I see that many of the non-uni grads that are making good money are in the trades. Coincidence?

While I did take some Uni level courses I never went full time and at my peak I made over $100K. Now I work as hard as I want, when I want, and only take jobs that I want to do. I could be making over $150K but I spent too many years of my life working 70+ hours a week, won't do it anymore......

WOW. I know 100s and 100s of university graduates and not a single one ever worked at McDonalds after graduation. Maybe it's different where you live, but around here the vast majority of the staff at McDonalds are of high school age. Except for the manager I've almost never seen a McDonalds employee over the age of 21.

I have no doubt that it is a lot easier for a uni grad to make more money, but why? To get an education it costs lots of money, if you have money it is easier to make more money, so most uni grads come from mid to upper income homes = they make more money.

And what is so great about $100k a year? the new $100k is $250k if you are a Dr or a lawyer and you are makeing $100k the you are a loooooser!!!

The Big Mac thing is for dramatic effect. They don't necessarily have McJobs, but they do work in retail, at banks, etc. All jobs that they could have with no education.

The point of my posts were, by no means, to promote people dropping out of school. I think that people are much better off educating themselves as much as they can. The point is that regardless of your education background, you can only succeed if you have the right work ethic. My SO's uncle has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and is absolutely brilliant, but has never made any money, because he's spent his whole life coming up with these zany schemes that are going to make him rich.

I think that the correlation between having a university degree and making more money has to with the types of jobs that people get and the fact that someone who completes a high level degree (Masters or PhD) has to have a lot of commitment and a good work ethic to be able to complete that much schooling. It's not easy. The fact that a lot of people that get degrees end up in the medical or legal field would also skew those numbers that were posted. Let's face it, most people that do not complete high school, or just barely do, end up spending most of their time high on their couch, plying video games, while collecting some kind of social assistance. They're LAZY. That's why they never tried to amount to anything good.

The original question was, "Do you know any non-university grads that make over $100k?" and I think that almost everyone here (whether educated or not) knows SOMEONE who has no degree and still makes over 100K.

Well stats don't lie (though are subject to interpretation) :

From England:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1042761/Graduate-jobless-rate-higher-average.html

Here's an interesting one:

http://www.provost.utoronto.ca/link...es__University_of_Toronto_by_Program_Area.htm

Looks like an average of 10% are unemployed after graduation......

But I've read that it is getting more and more difficult to get a job in your chosen field if you're not in the top 10.
