Worldwide I think they are the largest computer manufacturer. I don't think their parts are really any different than most of the others...lots of the stuff comes out of an Acer owned plant when you buy other brands anyway.

They have marketed much less in North America than other parts of the world...but are picking up here as well now.

I owned one years ago and had some problems...but can't say it was all that much different than any other brand...I've had problems with others too.

I got a desktop acer, its 2 years old, no problems with it.
My acer netbook it about 1 year old, extreme slow cuz of the atom processor. If you get a laptop, netbook go with the higher end processors as there isn't much diff between acer and the other brands.

I have an almost 4 year old laptop that gets a lot of use. I have had zero problems what so ever. I am considering an upgrade only because I want something newer and faster but that will almost certainly be another Acer. Also have an A500 tablet that's been problem free.

lol they won't fall apart.

Computers are more likely than not made from the same manufacturers that most others are, it's just branding and distribution that's really different.
They all outsource to each with each other in this day and age, for the most part.

my laptop is an acer 17 inch screen, 5 years old and no problems except hinges are going now. Bought my daughter a new laptop recently, acer again, about $300 and works great. just get the intel core as opposed to the AMD, seems to be faster.

I have the ACER 1810T Olympic Edition..11.6" Backlit LED, Intel C2D SU9400, 4GB RAM, BT 2.1+EDR, 802.11N, 500 GB HD, GB Ethernet and a batttery life of 7+ hours even after owning for 2 years. It has caused me no problems and I work on this 6-8 hours per day. I was very selective when I purchased this and I am happy that I did. The motherboard, broadcom WiFi and broadcom Bluetooth have all worked flawlessly. I had more issues with my Lenovo X220 than I have with this machine. The ACER's are a great little machine for a great price. As suggested, stay with the Intel chipsets....
