On hot days in the summer and cold days in the winter they just slack off.
Mail carriers use to stack their mail. They would check in in the morning and put their load into their truck of their car and then deliver it with the new mail one or two days later. They would get 2-5 days to do as they please. In the past they use to do the 4 hour days worth days off in the week. That was in the days where they would go on strike every 2-3 years. The carriers would alternate with the sorters and go off on strike on alternative years.
I use to know a mail carrier who use to deliver pizza during the lunch hour. Now a days the carriers can not leave if they claim to have finished their route. They have to deliver packages.
