..then you might try getting the opinion of someone else (perhaps a 3rd party who has no reason to be anything but honest with you) as to whether you really dress conservatively and / or age appropriate.

Another thing is...and I am not EVEN TRYING TO saying this or my previous point are "fair" or "right"...if you ALWAYS look "put together"..there might be some assumption as to why.

I simple comment such as 'I'm looking for a companion for the evening' wouldn't be taken as anything more that a polite way to ask a lady for a traditional date - unless you were in the industry. In my experience if I see a single woman sitting in a bar for any period of time, checking her phone or bberry and giving off an air of confidence I am usually right in assuming she is a working girl.
