disturbing front page news

Does anybody feel like the first page of news is filled with super disturbing stuff before I click on a news website I take a deep breath, like to prepare my mind for a mass shooting, or beheading of someone’s gradma, or animal killing…. just not healthy, so I minimize my news to once a day.

This is nothing new. Newspapers and news shows always report on stories that are rarely happy. Murders, arrests, scandal, they are what people expect, and what sells. Happy news is a rarity, and it usually comes as a "kicker" in tv/radio broadcasts, which is the last story of the show. You can definitely look once a day.

I think the 24/7 news cycle is a problem. I mean, you listen to 680 News, and they have "breaking news alerts" for stories that happened 12 hours ago. In many ways, that is the most overused cliche in the business.

Every day there are stabbings, shootings, hit and runs, .....ho hummmm. I've become desnsitized.

Do we need a newspaper to tell us that there's a war in Ukraine that could escalate, the Earth is heating up, prices of gas and food are growing, the pandemic is ongoing, the U.S. is a shit show etc., etc.?
