The star is reporting that a police file may have been opened from one of the suicide attempts, which lessens the worry somewhat.
Still, having medical info make it into US hands is wrong.

We should be wondering why Harper is spending money to monitor Facebook.
How much money? Potential employers do all the time. What's the problem?

There won't be a CPIC record created for you if the police are called for a suicide threat/attempt (though the police force in question will have a file for you) Here's what's in CPIC:

CPIC is broken down into four data banks: Investigative, Identification, Intelligence and Ancillary[5] which contain information on:
Vehicles/marine
Stolen or abandoned vehicles/boats
Persons:
Wanted persons
People who are accused of crime(s)
People on probation or parolees
Special Interest Police (SIP)
Judicial orders
Access to the Offender Management System of Correctional Service of Canada
Missing persons
Stolen property
Dental characteristics
Canadian Firearms Registry of the Canadian Firearms Program
Wandering Persons Registry
Alzheimer's disease patients who register with the Alzheimer Society of Canada in case they go missing
CPIC criminal surveillance
Criminal intelligence gathered across the country
Criminal Record Synopsis
Condensed information about a person's criminal record

I read somewhere that this particular lady wrote a book on mental health/her issues. Maybe the CBP officer just googled her name.

Borders are borders are borders. Unless you are a national they don't have to let you in, and they can ask you all sorts of highly obnoxious questions.
I suspect you know damn well this was likely just an overzealous rookie looking to score points with the boss.

HOWEVER- What's happening here is that police are recording all sorts of personal/private information about people onto "contact cards", and then those "contact cards" are being shared with the US. ....
Is that what happened? I must have missed that part in the news articles.

From the original star article (linked from the article in post 1):

The 64 year-old Toronto woman was fingerprinted and photographed. She questioned the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer about how he accessed her medical records. He said he didn't. Instead, he knew police had attended her Toronto home in 2006 because she had done "violence to self."

The globe has an article on cesc today, I think the budget is over a billion a year as well as the billion dollar spy home they are building.

From the star and cbc, it appears that police didn't charge anyone at the woman, or any of the other dozen people held back for similar reasons. The US has access to records of police visits and medical records linked in with those visits, not just criminal charges.

Guess that means Ford can kiss goodbye to his Florida vacations.

I don't agree with sharing records with the Americans but we really have no choice. They simply will make it extremely difficult to cross the border even to just go shopping or a Sabres game, it is their country and they have every right to decide who they let in and why.

He will simply pay for an expedited waiver.
