Disabled parking

Damn cripples get all the breaks. Bastards!
Someday when you or someone you love has a disability, you will get your chance to understand how incredibly selfish that comment is. Only by experiencing or seeing someone go through the type of pain that will make you/them go on the edge of almost losing it and have no possibility of relief will you understand.

Easy, big guy! It might not make you laugh out loud, but surely you can see that it is an attempt at humour.

try living in a coma for a few weeks (5) with doctors telling YOUR family to keep a vigil and then wake up not nearly the man you were and then lose your income and @55 face the rest of YOUR life in the body you are left with THEN just maybe we can share a "laugh" in the meantime and until you do SHAME!!!

I have never logged on looking for sympathy but nor do I expect ridicule

I'm an incredibly open minded person and almost nothing offends me, Any lady that has seen me can attest to the fact that i'm pretty laid back. I also look for humour everywhere as laughter is a great means of stress relief. I even can laugh at myself, but unfortunately did't find the comment funny.

Its the equivalent of making a joke about a girl that gets raped. Lets see if anyone lady here would find it funny. I think not.

As most people will have realised, the humour lies in the fact that the statement is so completely and utterly outrageous.

I had some fun today. There was a guy at the bank parked in the handicap spot as what must have been his girlfriend was at the bank machine. When I was at the other machine, I told her that she was a wonderful woman for dating a mentally handicapped guy but the spots were for people with physical disabilities. She had an embarrased lok on her face as she left and her man had a funny look on his face when I left shortly after her. I guess he was trying to figure out what I meant.

This actually brings to light a few issues (for lack of a better word) with handicapped spots etc.

1) If someone is mentally handicapped, they shouldn't be driving a fricken car in the first place lol..
odds are someone else is driving them around, but still need that space

I was in a wheelchair for some time had to learn to walk again first with a walker then with two canes and now with one. So I know why we need those parking spots. Yes we can use stairs and it is not fun to be made fun of in any way. It is a lot hadder to walk with a cane that is the reason for the spots and it is a lot safer for us if we are park closer to were we are going. I hope no one has to spend any time in a wheelchair it sucks. One more thing the spots are wide because when I get in a car I need to swing the doors all the way out to get in and out with the wide spot I do not need to dent your car.

Thanks for this idea, I may just use this type of conversation in a similar situation. Make them think twice about respecting the handicapped parking.

Not to say for nothing but being in the trades I just about always have some sort of physical ailment: from a herniated disc, to a blown out knee, to dropping shit on my feet, climbing 11 stories of stairs just to get to site, etc etc.
Maybe you're eligible for a temporary handicapped permit then.

Buttercup your joke was inappropriate but funny. Some people just can't laugh at themselves and go out of there way to look for offence. That's probably why they need hookers to get laid.

Anyhow....handicap parking I am on board with. Walking a bit further is a small price to pay for my health and a pox on anyone who would steal their parking spot. But what are the rules about "expectant mother" parking, or "for parents with young children". The pink signs. That's just the mall's request that those spots be reserved for those folk, isnt' it? Can one be fined for parking there? Frankly, I don't respect the needs of expectant mothers or parents with young children. Ya ya ya, they might have trouble wabbling around. Ya ya ya I'll never "understand" what its like to be preggers. Don't care. Whatever. Its just political correctness run amok. So can I be fined for denying mom a parking spot?

YES local bylaws permit landlords to set parking restrictions and you can be TOWED:eek: and FINED
To add to this if you are parked in a handicapped spot waiting for your GF to 'run into the bank', a cop can come up to you and give you a ticket even while you are just stopped, it did happen to the SO.

Just when I thought it wasn't possible to be more inappropriate, well I was wrong. Humour is great when you look at a normal situation and find the silly things about it, what you are doing is not showing a joke, the only thing you show is offense. I personnally am not disabled and not offended but still don't find it funny. (BTW I have an SO and can get laid when I want, I choose to see SPs for variety just like the other 50% on this board. Some others again may be even more offended by this comment.)

Look at the recent post entitled "maybe golf is not a waste of time after all". It turns out that that is about an accident in which a man kills his mother-in-law with a golf ball. If you're so sensitive to inappropriate jokes, why didn't you attack that poster?

That reminds me of another inappropriate joke. The scene: England, where the game of darts is popular in pubs. A woman is reading the paper and remarks to her husband, "There's a nasty case here. A man killed his wife with a dart." The husband replies, "How many throws?"

Are you going after me for that one too?

Not that I mind being attacked for being politically incorrect. And I'm an atheist, by god.

Just because you personally didn't find it funny does not mean others will not see humour.

I got a snort of amusement from buttercup's off-colour comment. Doesn't mean I agree with it, just that it got my attention in a "did he really say that?! Wow!" sort of way.

Probably would have been better had he put a :p face after it or a 'just kidding' for those that need help identifying non-serious posts.

how can they tell? they'd have to either wait until you left or sit there and watch you park...

But then again, all you'd have to say is: I DO have children, they're at home with their mother! lol (the sign doesn't say "customers with small children WITH them) lol....

Then again, you'd be able to get out of the expectant mother ticket too. You'd just have to say to them: my wife is coming out at the other door and I'm driving around to pick her up......cuz, the sign doesn't say "expectant mothers DRIVING the vehicle"??? Or How expectant do you have to be?

Any woman could say: I AM expecting, expecting to have children in 8 months...or I found out yesterday I'm preggers lol.....

Actually, the other situations are funny. Its takes a normal situation and shows a freak accident.

Picking on someone disabled is kicking them when they are already down.

Maybe this is just my pet peeve, however I still think its just in bad taste.

Well, it is my understanding that they want to be treated like everyone else so....why the hell NOT poke fun at them? Pretty soon there will be no more jokes because every comedian has to be PC.

Here's the best: 2 people walk into a bar ba dum da.......they can't be male, they can't be homo, they can't be handicapped, they can't be young, they can't be old, they can't be lesbo, they can't be.........
