Ya......fork over 4500.00 fpr a membership before your allowed to buy anything. Presurre tactics to make you sign up. I won't say its a bad concept if your furnishing a whole house. But still 4500..!!!!

Don't bite!

You have to pay a substantial initiation fee up front and many of the great deals aren't so. The big bump is that since you're buying from the manufacturers, any problem have you dealing with them and not the retailer and believe me there will be problems; wrong size, wrong colour, old stock etc.

not sure if this is still true, but when you see them for the first time you must decide right then and there. Not allowed to leave and think about it. I have never heard anything good about them.

The Canadian dollar is almost at par with the US dollar, so you can expect a lot of specials in consumer goods in the next little while. Paying $5000 for membership is outrageous. You probably can do better on your own.

I almost joined them about 8 years ago. Back then they wanted a $7000 initiation / sign up fee. More than makes up for any savings you may get.

A year ago I was almost pressured to sign up a membership by the DirectBuy salesperson. Thank god I did not. They used too much pressure on me. But I still held out. The initiation fee is totally unreasonale. Doubt the savings after join it.

i've been a direct buy member for 2 years now. if you plan on furnishing your whole house then it's worth it, but if not then don't waste your money.
the concept of direct buy is buying brand name furniture at low cost, but if your ideal brand name is like GE you won't be saving much. i would reccomend if your a big kitchen aid fan tho . last year i bought a washer, dryer and fridge by bosch and i ended up saving close to $3000, approixmately $1000 off each piece after comparing the prices to like tasco and stores that carry the bosch brand. everything also carries a warranty, i had a problem with my fridge making nosies and i called the 1-800 number in my manual and they sent a authorize dealer to my house within a week. i only thing i dislike about direct buy is the waiting time. it usually takes about 4-6 weeks before your product arrives and you have to pick it up yourself. so if you bought a big ass couch your pretty much fucked if you dont have a big truck :)
here's a quick list of purchases i've made at direct buy:

-couch (marthena)
-washer/dryer (bosch)
-fridge (bosch)
-snow blower (toro)
-dining table (homelgeance)
-futon (homelgeance)
-mixer (kicthen aid)
-hardwood floors (jatoba)
-blinds (hunter douglas)
-stroller,crib,drawer chest,change table (graco)
-movie ticket, yup movie tickets lol. $8/pc

Verdict: If you got a shit load of things to buy, definately a yes. if not save your money, you would have to purchase some big appliances and furniture to make that $4500 back.

i went to their "informational meeting" which just turned out to be a pressure job. It didnt bother me because I'm in sales too but proper sales not pressure sales...so I was able to see through the lines, the ruse and what the guy is likely thinking all along the way.... it was a battle of jedi sales mind tricks; but i won lol....that guy had no idea who he was dealing with.

HAHAHA...should have seen how many of the husbands get up and drag their wives with them right after that was announced...
LMAO... exact same thing with me... I had to get up and grab my wife saying "c'mon we're going". Not because she was "sold" and I wasn't...simply because she is a non confrontational person and she doesn't do well in high pressure situations. Her face was beet red throughout the whole presentation and back and forth banter between me and this clown. She knew I was fucking with this guy but she was frozen.

In fairness I can see DirectBuy working if you are doing something BIG...massive renovation and furnishings AND you were only interested in high end brands like Miele, Dacor, Viking, Subzero, Wolf AND you are a patient person...then perhaps....and I stress PERHAPS

But other wise?...no way

I wish I saw this thread earlier. I ended up joining them and spent close to $6000 membership fees just to find out not worth the savings like they advertised. I told them I was not happy but not able to get out. The prices look much cheaper when you see it their prices but when you add shipping and handling it turn out to be the just a few dollars cheaper and you have to pick up most items from their warehouse. IS NOT WORTH IT!!! IT IS TOTAL SCAM!
