Science is really scary yet the progress fascinates me.

"Colossal has been working toward resurrecting the mammoth, dodo and Tasmanian tiger since 2021, but the company had not previously publicized its work on dire wolves."

Question 1: Are you the ones who think we shouldn't play with nature like that?

Unless it is made to save a species men's endangered I want to say yes. However they seems to push it too far with the mammoth and the dire wolves If they can be called dire wolves.

Question 2: What is your favorite dinosaur?

Question 3: Can I pet that dog?

The problem I have with this whole de extinction thing, especially where mammoths and dire wolves are concerned, is that the ecological niches they once occupied don't really exist anymore or are occupied by species that are very much extant. The mammoth steppe is a very different place now then it was during the Younger Dryas ten thousand years ago. I have a very hard time seeing how resurrecting these lost species helps anything other than satiating human curiosity

There was an April Fools joke about entelodonts getting de-extincted. Wouldn't that be something special, humans becoming food for the terminator pig.

Imagine a prehistoric pig the size of a grizzly bear, they were eventually driven to extinction by dire wolves.

The claim has been shot down. They're wolves with a very minor insertion on their DNA.
It was not shut down, but they are arguing about it. They took the DNA of Grey wolves which was 99.5% similar et they modified it at multiple places for it to be identical.

You still don't answer any of my questions.

My problem is there too and it makes me wonder what is next and where will they stop?

Reviving almost instinct species, yes, changing their genes to make them stronger or else to avoid extinction, no.

We shouldn't unless there's a legit reason for them. To put in a zoo to attract visitors? Perhaps. What's the point of bringing back the dodo or something as big as the mammoth?

Question 2: What is your favorite dinosaur? I suppose T-Rex, but I haven't looked into dinosaurs much since junior school.

Question 3: Can I pet that dog? No. Don't pet any wild animal and if someone has a pet you ask if it's okay to pet the dog. I had a German Shepherd working line and wouldn't let anyone near her. Clowns coming up saying awww so cute and her barking was more than enough to say get the fuck away. These breed are meant for packs and don't like randoms showing up. Most clowns also don't know how to read a dog like overly petting the bitch and seeing her ears are back and such it's a clear indication she's not happy, stressed perhaps and will try to bite.

I've seen kids and adults over pet other people's dogs of various breeds along with putting their face too close to the animal and it's the animals fault for nicking them. Gimme a break. The average person who owns a dog shouldn't. And when taking your dog out for a walk and they wanna sniff around let them at times than being in a rush trying to get back home. Dogs enjoy sniff and exploring. If you're in a rush too often to get back home than to walk the dog then give up the animal. Being overly controlling of the animal during walks isn't good. Most people also suck at training their dog and give up easily.

That sounds all like a funny joke until some ruthless people do it for real lol

I would not pet that dawg don't worry. Nor would they let me. I will never understand people who pets other people's dog out of nowhere. Not only is it dangerous but you are showing the dog that it's okay for it to give attention to other people than their master. This can really mess up a puppy education.

I'm half way through Joe Rogan's podcast with the CEO of the company. It's extremely fascinating and from what I've heard so far it does seem like one of their primary goals is to help bring back species that are in danger of becoming extinct or have just recently (like past few hundred years or so) become extinct. Definitely a must listen IMO

I will while I walk my dogs. If their intentions are true I vouch for it and this is groundbreaking.

Good article on the Time

Suppose a Dire Wolf or two escapes into the wild and reproduces with the coyotes or “coyowolf” hybrids that live in major urban centres like the GTA or Montreal. The results may be unpredictable and unpleasant.
These Dire Wolves are not exact replicas of the extinct species but are more like contemporary wolves with select genome of an extinct species that has been introduced.
It is unpredictable how the offsprings and subsequent generations of a mating pair of these new Dire wolves would turn out going forward.

Who is funding this research ? Maybe people like Musk and Trump might try to fabricate a “ master race” of GMO people to get rid of DEI !

Who is funding is a good question. It's all fun and sparkly until it falls in the wrong hands ..

As long as they don't start playing with the dragons lol

Edit: that was a joke. I know you cannot genetically modify something that never existed...

Now I'm beginning to understand the April Fools joke. The Dire Wolf went extinct 15,000 years ago. They showed up in GoTs along with Cane Corsos.

They seem to have edited a grey wolf's DNA based on a Dire Wolf's DNA they recovered from a fossil.
Not sure if it can be considered a Dire Wolf.
Guess we need some scientific consensus on this.

Such cute puppers, they'd make great additions to Letterkenny.

Apart from Antman, Timber Wolves no longer exist. They've been scientifically reclassified as part of the Gray Wolf Genis.
