You can't drink or eat anything anymore. Before it was the the sugar and the high fructose syrup, now its the diet drinks. My nephew is addicted to the diet coke, he goes thru 4 litres a day . They say that the sweetness will make you crave for more sweets.

It may have zero calories and no added sugar, but experts say Diet Coke is not generally considered a healthy beverage.

Previous studies have linked diet soda in general to increased metabolic and cardiovascular risks, among other health effects.

"Research shows that drinking two or more artificially sweetened beverages per day may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke," Michelle Routhenstein, a New York-based registered dietitian who specializes in heart disease, told Fox News Digital.

"Another study showed that just one diet soda increases the risk of Afib, an irregular heartbeat that increases the risk of vascular events, like stroke."

Some studies show this may be due to how artificial sweeteners are processed in the body and the metabolites they produce, Routhenstein said, while other research suggests that diet sodas may negatively change the balance of gut bacteria, which plays a role in chronic disease.

"Many of my clients who have ditched Diet Coke mention how they never realized how addictive it can be," she added.

Tanya Freirich, a registered dietitian nutritionist in Charlotte, North Carolina, noted that Diet Coke contains artificial sweeteners that have been linked to weight gain and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

"Aspartame, the artificial sweetener in Diet Coke, has been labeled as possibly carcinogenic by the World Health Organization and may negatively affect our gut microbiome," she said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

It also does quite a number on your healthy gut bacteria.

Yes I heard the story, but what are you going to add to your coffee? Sugar sucks and its addictive. I add a little splenda to me coffee, but I only have one. They say monkfruit is better and now they have a new one called Allulose, but I don't think they have it in Canada yet.

There are a lot of great alternative sugar sources like coconut sugar and date sugar. Allulose is a derivative of date sugar. Stevia is one of the better choices but all of those chemical sugar alternatives are worse than straight sugar due to the damage they do to your gut. I use 2 spoonfuls of sugar in my coffee because in the grand scheme of things a healthy person doesn't need to worry about that amount of sugar. I don't eat processed foods so I don't get any extra sugar in my diet the way most people do.

Have you tried raw honey yet? I used it in tea once, but I prefer my tea black. I use to drink double double for a few months just 1 a day for a while. Now the odd time I drink coffee (I'm more so a tea person) I just get 1 sugar and black and add my own lactose free cream in it. Find it's better and I've always stuck with small sizes. America has issues because their sizes compared to us is bigger of course.
I love honey, I used it for a period of time until my Doc said its 82% sugar. I should go back drinking green tea, I didn't have to add anything.

I'm just curious... but have you tried going to black coffee? I NEEDED cream and sugar in my coffee back in the day. I slowly decreased the sugar out and then slowly decreased the cream out.

Nowadays, I can't imagine putting cream/sugar in coffee anymore. I now appreciate the taste of good black coffee.

Just a thought. Coffee and tea are easy ways to cut out sugar and fat (from creamers), IMO.

Honey is probably the best choice of sweetener especially unpasteurized. It contains tons of beneficial antioxidants and anti-inflammitory compounds. There have also been some studies that show it can increase testosterone if I'm not mistaken. Despite the high sugar content honey is practically a health food.

I likes my coffee like I likes my women. Hot. Black, and sweet.

It's all about moderation. A couple of cans of diet soda a week won't hurt you—but drinking four to five cans a day, every day, is a different story. The same principle applies to almost anything. If you eat 12 tablespoons of honey a day (about 750 calories), you're still consuming a large amount of sugar. Over time, that can lead to weight gain and cardiovascular issues. It all comes back to one simple idea: moderation is key.

As "good" as the OP's post is, it's also dangerous because what it says is too generic without providing specifics. Yes diet drinks, if too much is consumed can be dangerous just as eating/drinking too much of anything, including water, can be dangerous too. Information/reports such as this without specifics is dangersous.

PartyGirls, keep your Diet Pepsi...just drink a can a week and i think you'll survive especially if you use it as a mix with alcohols.
