Ottawa base.
I have a bachelor in French literature. I realize after I was done that unless I continue for a PhD it is rather useless...look good on my resume!
Now I will be finishing another bac but this time in Social work, then will take a year off and will continue for a master, with an emphases on sexology
Now I am working as an SP mainly and I also have a more "regular" job that has something to do with French

If you can say that someone (not me) who studied food and nutrition ended up as a restaurant owner and then traded that for a farm is still working in the same business (food) then my schooling is still somewhat relevant to what I do today.

Great Red! Congrats! However, did you get your PHD in Punnery? "PHDP"
yes, my doctoral thesis was about a quebec father of five who lost his hands in a sawmill accident and had them replaced with bear paws. he spent the rest of his life explaining the accident to his french neighbours. I called it "Pourquoi Paw?"

You are kind of funny.

You want to ban certain types of schools you don't like, but then say don't take away the freedoms of responsible people.

I guess by "responsible people" you mean people who agree with you. They can't be religious or capitalist...

So I guess you and your friends will sit on a committee to decide who is smart or responsible enough (more properly "who is enough like me") to have educational freedom and those who are not. Not much of an ego on you.

What we have now is a public education system, that raises up the lowest level of education to a certain acceptable minimum, and offers opportunities for others to excel based on various criteria. It is really not so bad.

And it is not just the "rich" who can opt out of public schools. I know families where the parents work two or three jobs and make sacrifices for their children to get into a private school. I am glad they have that choice.
if i am funny than you are ... well ... let us stay away from the insult crowd and debate intelligently

firstly

i said " incompetent parents sending their children to the church of scientology or a capitalistic pig everyone gets honours rip off school or an islamic terrorist school etc"

if you want to go to a relgious school or any other type of school be my guest as my system gives such freedoms

as to who decides which schools are incompetent if not outright looney and should be banned is a valid point of debate ( I would not want that job)

secondly

no way should a parent have to work a second job to pay for an alternative school when their school taxes have been taken that would pay for it

you see the public schools through rose coloured glasses where i see a much better system

second rate is not good enough for me

I'm a geek. I have a not-very-practical university degree, and a more practical diploma. I'm working the the field that the diploma is in, but not at what it says on it. :) That's ignoring other educational stuff I've done. So, I'm closeish-but-not-really to doing what I trained for. I'm happy with my life, YMMV.

Yes, in a manner of speaking. I finished my Bsc degree in one field and a Msc in a related field, and I am currently working in that related field.

i went to University with the intention of becoming a dentist. Switched after looking at the text books, f'ing gross. and i thank God that i didnt go that route.
I have swerved into a couple of different "careers" post graduation, each time following current passions and opportunities. i hope this path works for me over the long run because it is quite exciting !
