Goes to show you how many 9mm bullets you can put into someone, and they can still approach and cause you harm.

And most cops are terrible at shooting . . . can't hit a target 3 meters away (it's not easy shooting pistols accurately unless you train all the time). Let that give you context in the cases where multiple cops pop off a dozen rounds combined at someone posing a serious threat.

Services don't have the money to give cops the required ammo and range time to become good shooters. It's also a perishable skill that needs to be maintained.

Sure show me a video of a cop walking away from an attacker. You won't find many on youtube. There are plenty of them shooting people before they have a chance to attack. Or better yet, post a video of you in a similar situation.
Of course we don't see the lead up in this case but there are many police shootings that could have been avoided by the officer maintaining space which also gives them time to make decisions. Just based on the video, it is likely that the dead guy would have engaged the cop no matter what he did but there are cases where the suspect wasn't agitated until the cop came up and started yelling.

With mental health calls especially, responding officers would be better to stay back and talk calmly unless there is an immediate threat to the public. It would probably make the interaction longer but if 'protect and serve' is actually the point, it would be worth it.

Lol. that's a big "if" I think at this point we know that for most cops the point is " case closed" which is what happened.
