I have a 4-year in home warranty for my Dell desktop.
If they dont honor it then I'll see them in court.
My advice, always get the extended warranty.
Today's laptop manufacturers purchased their component parts "without" manufacturer's warranty. If your hard drive craps out, you will find out that it is
not even covered by manufacturer's warranty when you get to the manufacturer's web site and punch in the serial number.
The Laptop guys like Dell saved about $10 each hard drive but you lost 3 year's worth of warranty. Always buy the extended warranty when getting a Laptop. In Dell's case, this
applies to their Desktops as well - so be warned.
BTW, in home warranty means a toll free number to access a guy in
India who would ask you to pop in the recovery CD and reformat your drive. This fixes 80 percent of the problems but you'd better backup your data regularly. The other major breakdowns are Power supply, video card, and CD-ROM. If your CD-ROM is "the" problem, be prepared to
"play technician" as they will send you the CD-ROM for your
in-home installation with their telephone instructions.
How do I know ? I am in this business !
