I don't think we have life without parole in Canada. TTBOMK, even 1st-degree cases are permitted to apply for parole after 25 years.
That is not exactly accurate. Prosecutors can apply to a judge to have a prisoner labelled a "dangerous offender" pretty much any time after the prisoner has already been convicted, and if granted, such a prisoner can spend their entire lives in prison without any possibility whatsoever for parole.
