I'll take chemistry over pure stats and information. If I just want facts I can look them up on my own.
Oh I wasn't talking about stats or about stuff that can't be looked up. I am not a big stats guy anyway. Stats don't impress me and I have no time for radio hosts who just rely on stats. Like Norm Rumack for example. That guy always used to just look stuff up on the internet. Jeff Sammut does that too. When a sports talk radio hosts relies on stats that much it tells me that he or she just isn't watching the games. I leave the stats to the fantasy geeks and the gamblers.
I was talking more about knowledge of the sports. For example Tim Micallef actually will sit there and say "hey did you see how good the Clippers pick-and-roll defense was against Westbrook last night?" where as someone like a Sammut or Lajoie will just read stuff off a boxscore. I like guys that watch games and then talk about what they saw and not necessarily stuff that shows up on a boxscore. I remember listening to an interview one time where Jeff Sammut basically took all his questions right out a Don Banks article.
To use another example Stephen Brunt I think is way more knowledgeable than Bob Mccown. Ever notice how Bob is so obsessed with QBs? I recall was listening to his show one day and he couldn't even remember Joe Thomas' name. Incredible considering the fact that he claims to be a Browns fan.
Ask Tim Micallef who the best inside linebacker in the NFL is or the best defensive guard is in the NBA. Bet you he will give some names. Ask Bob Mccown the same questions and he will have no answer.
Bob is entertaining. I listen to his show almost every day. But his knowledge base is not that great. I find it amazing that he is even on sports radio. Every game puts his feet to sleep or is unwatchable. Sometimes I wonder if the guy even likes sports. Maybe he chose the wrong profession. Sounds like a very difficult man to please because this game was unwatchable and that game put his feet to sleep.
But to clarify I was talking about non-statistical knowledge. I don't really consider stats knowledge anyway. Most people that quote stats just look them up off the net. That is not what I consider knowledge. Plus a lot of folks that quote stats do so because they didn't watch the games so the only way they can talk about the games is by looking up some numbers off the internet.
