The ideas in Holy Blood does open up some questions about the early church and the life of JC. The answers about tracing the bloodline though could be an X-Files episode.
I was most impressed (and surprised) about the "Real Da Vinci Code" because it wasn't just the typical documentary to promote the coming movie. It did look criticaly at the story, unlike many of these documentaries I've seen recently that base the whole show on speculation. (One was investigating the shroud of turin and another cloth that supposedly wrapped JC's head after the crucifixion and claimed "conclusive" evidence that both had blood from the same person because they had the same blood type.)
That being said, the book was entertaining although definitely not a literary masterpiece.
