Not being a Leaf fan I guess I don't understand but would hiring Dave Nonis be the answer? This guy basically dismantled the Canucks over the last few years and was shown the door one day after the season was over. Why would the Leafs want this guy? I mean don't the Leafs actually want to get better? Isn't that the point of sports? You know. . . to get better?

They want him because they're the Leafs, do you get it.

Why Dave Nonis? See Burke, Brian. Also, see the Roberto Luongo robbery... umm, trade.

The Canucks were a flawed team and Burke left just in time. Nonis had to rebuild the team with too many bad contracts in place. The young defence are good and there are a few prospects in the system.

Like JFJ, Nonis wasn't given adequate time to show if he could do the job and he certainly didn't make the ugly salary and free agent mistakes that John-John did.

IMO Nonis did little to improve the Canucks, he basically traded for Luongo and did nothing else. Thought he could sit back and let Luongo do everything, while he grew another chin.

It would be not so bad if the Leafs were a powerhouse hockey club and not many prospects in the minors but they are a below average hockey club with barely any prospects.

JFJ has made an absolute mess of this organization. Bad trades, contract renewals, free agent signings (except for Toskala but we ended giving up too much future again but then again, no prospects) and draft picks or lack thereof.

In all fairness, Nonis had made some moves to improve the Canucks. I would take Nonis over JFJ any day.

That's not really saying much.

Just because somebody is better than JFJ does not necessarily mean they're qualified for the job.

I don't want Nonis unless it means we're guaranteed Burke.

why do you guys want Brian Burke anyhow...exactly which teams has he built??

umm Hartford??? oh ya that was great wasnt it...

Vancouver??? they made late playoff appearances??? really??

Anaheim...ohh isnt it great that u inherit a team already built and assembled with great draft pics (perry, getzlaf, lupul)...

burke isnt the answer.....his only upside would be being able to stand up to Peddie and Co. but wouldnt Bobby Clarke (whos had more success as a GM) do also???

get real guys...Burke is NOT top-notch.

I've said from early on in this debacle that BB probably isn't the best GM or, more to the point, the one the Leafs need to rebuild an entire franchise from the ground up. I think he can be good if you've got a team ready to be pushed over the top (although never getting a goalie in Vancouver cost that franchise BIG time.)

Bob Clarke is excellent at finding and drafting young forwards, but he was useless at building a defence corps or identifying quality goaltending - a must if you want to win in the NHL.

aside from a few good draft picks and the Pronger trade and a few others, Burke hasn't done too much- though he's clearly better than Nonis.

still much better GM's available.

The Anaheim Ducks draft table is expected to have a new face among the group on Friday.

Former Canucks general manager Dave Nonis and Ducks general manager Brian Burke are working on the final details to add Nonis as a senior advisor.

It's believed Nonis, who worked with Burke in Vancouver, will have the freedom to leave his position in Anaheim abruptly if a more attractive offer from another team comes along.

A Vancouver native, Nonis served as senior vice president and director of hockey operations with the team for six seasons prior to becoming general manager.

Prior to joining the Canucks, Nonis served as the NHL's manager of hockey operations for four seasons. He helped finalize sections of the league's 1995 collective bargaining agreement and also worked with the league's arbitration team.

Interesting, isn't it.

Just guessing and could be totally off base but maybe Nonis is being primed to be Burke's replacement ...
Probably.

If not, then Burke will bring him along wherever he goes.

It's about who you know and what they can do for you.

There is talk that Ducks and hey nobody would let their GM go before the draft and so why not have Dave Nonis who was prepared for the draft before he was let go by Vancourver be at the draft table and get familiar with all Ducks scouts ...
Exactly.
