I'm watching the news and once again Dash Domi is on the stand at the MFP inquiry. The one thing that puzzels me is how Dash has been repeatedly painted as a bad guy in this debacle.

I don't know what kind of a guy Dash is but I have to ask myself what has he really done wrong? Dash is/was a sales guy. His job is to sell and if that involves wining and dining and comped hockey games than so be it.

In my best estimation he was doing his job. If a group of politicians cannot be trusted to do their jobs and if they cannot be trusted tobe ethical and if they show that they can be bought then good for him for taking advantage of that. I think the MFP mess is a travesty and those politicians found and city staff found at fault should be prosecuted if criminal activity is found to have been present.

But to me, through it all Dash is the one guy who seems to have focused on what his job is and making sure it get's done. don't hold him at fault for the shortcomings of others

I honestly have no idea what Domi did or did not do.

But I have a comment to Galt: There are rules for selling. Bribes and kickbacks are illegal in Canada.

Well kickbacks are difinately illegal but the term bribe can be very ambiguous in the context of sales. Is a lunch at a high end restaurant a bribe? Or a Leaf game in Philly.

Municipal politicians are governed by a code of conduct under the municipal elections act. sales people are not. The onus is on the politician not the sales person.

Dash Domi was an ex hairstylist now an ex computer leasing consultant - you figure out how and why he got the job he did
I'm an ex dishwasher from Mothers Pizza, now I'm a VP of a software company...what does that have to do with anything?

How does the above make him guilty of any wrongdoing in the MFP scandal?

I remember Mothers Pizza.

Fuck, that was good pizza. I seem to remember Monday night being an 8 slice pizza and a jug of pop for $4.99 or something like that.

You must be from Hamilton.

As far as Dash Domi goes, I agree with you.

He did nothing wrong, or at least nothing that doesn't go on every second of every day.

Ever want to here some real smoozing, talk to pharmaceutical salesmen and how they have to bribe doctors with wine women, and song, and women. Oh, and cash.

And trips to Hawaii, and did i mention women.

It's everywhere, including kick backs galore.

To me, Jakobek is the scum I always knew him to be. That fucked up arrogant asshole that looks like a frog.

He's as corrupt as they come. I have no doubt that he took that money and whole hell of a lot more. He's so fucking stoopid, he deserves to be caught.

Somebody gives you 25 grand, you put it under your mattress, not pay your American Express Bill.

You idiot Jacobek.

I remember the Globe and Mail doing a story or two about him about 10 years ago or so where he had city contractor's doing tons of work on his free house in the beaches. He of course said that he paid the contractors, that they just chose not to cash the cheque.

Yeah right, maybe they can come over and do my driveway.

I did not say that salesman are the only ones that have to play by the rules. Customers too.

What the hell is up with Tie Domi threatening to no longer talk to the Star sports guy just because other journalists at the Star are making his brother look bad by writing about what they have found (or "not getting the facts straight" as he tries to put it)? Have such lame attempts at blackmail ever worked against a newspaper? Or is Tie in desperate need of attention? Maybe he just needs a hug and should just say so?

Agree with the thoughts on Jacobek. Never trusted him, very weasly IMHO. The line of questioning today seemed to revolve around a cash payment from Domi to Jacobek. They have evidence of him entering the City Hall Parking Lot late one night and then exiting 13 minutes later. Do you think they were both wearing trench coats and sunglasses. Sopranos anyone! ;)

Like Quebec maybe? Actually no proof of a bribe.

WRT the star...this is a newspaper that has been less than reputable with it's news reporting and tends to editorialise the news than report the facts in order to promote a VERY left wing agenda

Tie has every right to speak and not speak to whomever he chooses. I say good for him

Okay, we all know now!

The appalling Domi brothers are thicker than bricks, Jakobek is a weasel of the first order, and wait 'n' see what Jeff Lyons - one-time two-timing "lobbyist" supreme - got up to. It'll all come out, and the closest these clowns'll get to city hall is working as parking attendants in the garage.

This inquiry - tied firmly to the coat tails of the administration of the unlamented loudmouth Mel Lastman - is going through City Hall like Draino through a clogged toilet, and it's about fucking time! After this, the ferret-like cabal of real estate developers, dodgy suppliers, and bent hamsters in the legal trade will all have to finbd a new approach.

Acting decentkly, maybe. With transparent honesty. What a concept! They'll find it difficulkt at first, but they'll have to go that route - or find themselves disgraced and humiliated like that slimy little toad Jakobek.

These bastards cheated all of us out our honest discretionary income that we could have used to enjoy our hobby!

Phew! That feels better! Back to work now....

Very stupid to say that paying a $25K bribe to an elected official to authorize a leasing deal at 400% of the correct price "goes on every second of everyday"

snip

Paying bribes and excepting graft has NOTHING to do with sales.

If you think that this is just an accepted business practise move the hell out of Canada to one of those corrupt countries where it really is part of everyday life and quit spreading the disgusting idea that Canadians and Torontonians should get used to government by bribery.
Not really a bribe.

A bribe is something you pay to someone to get them to do something for you before it has occured.

I'd say this is more of a kickback.

And yes, I see it often in one form or another.

I think Jacobek is a weasel (with no offense to the furry animal that lives in the ground). 25 grand is probably just the tip of the ice berg to tell you the truth. I bet Jacobek and others took a lot more than that. Public officials should not be accepting kickbacks, or bribes or whatever. I can handle them getting a free lunch, or dinner, but that's about it.

Jacobek is finished in the pubic trust. Back to mom and dad's dry cleaners there tom.

No way man, don't insult the hard working parking lot attendents around town. Jacobek and crew wouldn't be able to handle that job.

Sure he does, so long as we are clear on the circumstances.....

"Billy over there who has nothing to do with us called me a name. Make him stop or I'll cry, take my ball, and go home!"

Tie needs to stop being a 5 year old, grow up and be the professional he is paid to be (which, incidentally, includes talking to the press.....all the press).

I am not surprised...

If you look at what MFP and their "other" salesman did to the City of Waterloo RIM Park scandal. Yes, "RIM" is the right word.

MPF also have problem with other Cities on contracts. This other salesman took people out to events and show up 1 hour before approval meeting with a formula sheet. All the time convincing people its a lease-lease back scheme to give them 4.5% when they were just the middleman getting 1% or more on a 9.7% regular loan for the cities.

Now, this is truly "Bait and Switch".

But, of course, the treasurer trusted him and just simply told the approval committee that payment terms were checked out. $3 million dollars of commission was given to the Salesman alone!

with dash, it also has to do with the fact that he has lied in his previous testimony and has hindered the investigation into this thing.

Sorry we aren't talking tickets to a game here, we are talking over a million dollars.
We know the politicians are crooked starting with the top , the late Jean Cretin ( not a spelling error ).

Dash is part of this whole scandal , bribery , and is guilty by association.
I am in sales too but this goes way beyond the norm.

Agreed. To suggest otherwise is akin to saying that a drug dealer shouldn't be charged - only his customers.

There sure is a lot of smoke surrounding this inquiry and with that there must be a fire somewhere. Give Dash credit for using his hockey "ties". Without a doubt he has been less than forthright in his testimony and has selective memory gaps. This is not a guy with a whole lot of history in the business world of million dolllar commissions so I would think someone was manipulating him and no doubt he was willing. There are too many players in this controversy but the easiest to go after is Domi. Funny but no one at city hall staff is on the burner like this guy so it makes one wonder what other contracts out there ballooned into a mess such as this. Thank goodness they voted down the helicopter for the cops!
