What a beautiful beast!

(Why were people upset? Yes, that lady is a moron and could've had the Zoo retrieve the hat at a later time but those guys are more upset than the tiger. Could the tiger have jumped or scaled that wall as a result? I don't think so. I would not have done what that woman or her friend did. Dumb.)

Calm down. She wasn't even in danger. There was a barrier between her and the tiger.
Sure, but there is a second fence, so there must be a chance the tiger can get over one of them. Otherwise, they would only have one fence.

Probably the most excitement that tiger had all month.
The Metro Zoo is trying to save money. It seems a good deal if the tiger food is not only delivered free but also pays admission. :encouragement:

This time it ended up ok, but there is a reason that the fence is there and its insane for her to do what she did. What usually angers me is when
someone ignores all the warning signs, does something stupid, and then has the audacity to sue if something bad happens.

That happens all the time in 'merica', (McDonald's vs idiot chick comes to mind), but not so much here in the great white north.

Imagine the screams of horror from the little kids around watching this woman get mauled and devoured right before their eyes if this had worked out that way???

As much as I love watching wild animals I hate that they are locked up in cages for our amusement. They should be in the wild.

I heard this story on the radio the other day, but I wasn't listening closely and I thought I heard about this woman losing her CAT. I couldn't understand why she would have her cat at the zoo, (although you never know I suppose...) but I could see her trying to rescue it.

I suspect that the Zoo's more concerned about getting their Big Kitty all worked up. It's pretty amazing how it appears ready to take this idiot "out for lunch" even though it probably hasn't ever had to hunt for it's food in it's entire life, assuming it was captive-bred.

Unfortunately, its the lesser of evils. They aren't only locked up for our amusement. They are locked up for their own protection and for the sake of the survival of the species. Of course its preferable for them to be in the wild but sadly the wild isn't the wonderful place it should be... they have been hunted by poachers just short of extinction... and in many cases, into extinction. If it weren't for zoos, and those who visit them, many more would be extinct.. if it wasn't for people going there to pay money to look at them and be amused by their majestic beauty, the zoos would not be able to pay the INSANE bill to feed them, keep them, pay for full hospital facilities, expensive medications etc etc etc... nor fly them from one zoo to the other in the hope to match them up so they may mate and produce more so the species can be saves and hopefully one day, we can undo the damage other members of our kind have inflicted. In a perfect world, yes I hate that they are locked up too... but zoos do a LOT of good and you shouldn't feel bad going to see them and enjoy them... The truth is, when you go to the zoo, you are feeding them, housing them, paying for people to care for them and helping them reproduce. So please, next time you go to the zoo, not only should you do so with a clear conscience, you should actually feel good about what you are doing. If no one goes, its the animals who suffer. You have a good heart... don't feel bad, feel proud. You are one of the good ones! xo

There was also another case there involving leopards or cheetahs. Some imbecile went through with his window down and lost his arm.

ETA Apparently she was a stripper and the money was awarded based on lost income due to her injuries affecting her ability to earn a living.

I never thought that City Zoos' primary motive was to save wild animals from poaching or other threats to their survival. I suppose there's a bright side to them like you've explained.

The Toronto Zoo is a big property where they try to simulate an animal's natural habitat but nothing is better than a true animal sanctuary in the wild. It's been years since I was there the last time. I'd like to check out the Ripley's aquarium downtown some day.
