The vikings were misunderstood. They were on a mission to bring democracy and freedom for women to the rest of Europe.
I thought they were on a mission to bring red hair to the rest of Europe. Hee, hee, hee.

BTW Why did Kirk Douglas cut off Tony Curtis' arm? That was not nice.

Congratulations. I have no beef with the Danish Naval Forces. They went to Iraq twice.

Not sure , but it may have been because he was thief or killed another viking for the wrong reason.

Confirmed it was not as above, but because of a treasonous act. Tony/Erics cut the binding of a prisoners hands so that the prisoner could die a Vikings death in a pit of of starving wolves. A family film for sure.

It is a great movie, if you like action. The vikings throw axes into the main gate of a fortress, loosing a few vikings along the way, so that a lead group could scale the gate and open it. Only in Hollywood.

Now you are digging yourself a bigger hole in the view of danes.

In german it is Kriegsmarine.
and also perviously the Preußische Marine, Kaiserliche Marine, Reichsmarine, Kriegsmarine, Bundesmarine and currently the Deutsche Marine

And in Austria-Hungary the Kaiserliche und Königliche Kriegsmarine (k.u.k. Kriegsmarine)

We I'm sure have mentioned it before, but a lot of us with ancestors from the Eastern Midlands and the North of England have Viking ancestry. Any village that ends in "by" reflects a viking (Danish) background in the same way that any village ending in "thwait" reflects a saxon background.

No doubt, but the Vikings came as conquorers and not as welcome guests. Plus, a lot of the Viking bloodline was due to non-consensual sex.

Why did Kirk Douglas cut off Tony Curtis' arm?

I never watched that movie, sorry.

It is well to remember that the vikings were mostly traders, and were bringing nordic principles of equality to the other parts of Europe. They only resorted to violence against insurgents as a last option.

Viking 101 is still mandatory in danish primary schools. besides rudimentary english, french and italien, the most important strategies are covered. The order of activities during a raid must be known by all participants, it is known as the 1-2-3 rule:

First you rape, second you plunder, and only then do you burn.

Tell that to the monks at Lindisfarne Abbey. Exactly what did they do to earn the raid on them in 875(?). Didn't Paris get ransacked after they paid a substantial sum of ransom not to be attacked as per the agreement with the vikings. What did they do to deserve that? Twice I think. I could be wrong, but I think not.

Why weren't the Danes able to handle their Troll problems on their own?
Was it really necessary for Beowulf to come down from Geetland to deal with Grendel?

No, they did have some socially redeeming value (blond hair for one).
Another lie in marketing. I don't remember the exact number but I'll say 60%+ of Swedish blondes aren't. I'm not complaining just trying to bring things in proportion. Nor did most viking wears horns on their helmets. Hollywood does it again.

The monks were making fun of the viking's helmets.
