So it seems that Rather used a forged document on 60 minutes about Bush's service record.

The funniest thing was hearing on the radio that Rather and CBS are a biassed news source that is trying to influence the outcome of the election.

Biassed News? I've been following fox news for years and have never seen a bias there.LOL Of course EVERY news source is biassed in some way.

I'm sorry but I find this funny. If it was about anything else except Bush/the election, it would have had a 10 second apology at the end of the next show. At least this expands the issues for the debate. (service in veitnam, flip-flops, girlie-men, and democrats using the media to lie to the public)

What? Are you deaf, dumb and blind?

Although I tend more than a little to the right wing myself I don't trust anything they say. Those guys are little more than rabid right wing ideologues who do little else but parrot the Whitehouse neocon line. They wouldn't recognize balanced reporting if it bit them in the *ss. I don't trust right or left wing ideologues.

Why Not - I think it's obvious that strange1's statement was sarcastic. Did you say something about "deaf, dumb and blind"?

You might be right Don - but Rather compounded his own problems with the way he dealt with this matter AFTER the documentation's accuracy was challenged.

DAN RATHER AND JFK
In November, 1963, Dan Rather was an unknown newscaster at a small Texas TV station. When the Zapruder film of the assassination of John Kennedy became public knowledge, Dan Rather reported from Texas that he had seen the film, and that it showed John Kennedy's head "rocket forward" from the head shot. Single frames were shown from the film in magazines and on TV, but the actual moving image was not shown to the American public until Jim Garrison's trial of CIA agent Clay Shaw made the Zapurder film public, and proved once and for all that the head shot pushed John Kennedy's head backwards.

Shortly after Rather's "rocket forward" broadcast, he was given his first network slot and the start of his rise to media stardom. His original "rock forward" broadcast appears briefly under the opening titles of Oliver Stone's "JFK".

On tonight's evening news, Dan says he's sorry. My God, how asinine is it to air a story like this so close to a presidential election without double checking, and triple checking your sources. Thanks Dan for helping to hand the election to George W.

And this isn't the first time:

Critics are calling the media scandal over the Jerry Killian forgeries "Rathergate." But to thousands of Vietnam veterans, the real Rathergate took place 16 years ago when Dan Rather successfully foisted a fraud onto the American people. Then, unlike now, there was no blogosphere to expose him.

What would be happening now if Bill O'Reilly or sean Hannity had gone on the air with a "scoop" harmful to the Kerry campaign, using forged documents?
The libs would be heating up the tar, and no chicken within 50 miles of DC would be able to walk around without fear of being plucked.

Bingo,

The analogy is they had a case but to make it look better they planted evidence, now they whole thing will get thrown out of the court of public opinion.

Talk about dirty tricks, DQ keeps wining about how the Republicans play but I've not heard him complain about this - so much for that "independent" streak eh.

Hehehe (I can't stop chuckling)

Aaawwwww ... "The poor man was simply mislead, it was others who did not provide him with accurate information. But anyway ... we all just know that George Bush's record of Army service is questionable because it was questionable before."

Now doesn't that sound like a tune we keep hearing about another "intelligence failure"?

However Rather didn't arrogantly try to put a spin on it and aggressively try to turn it around thinking that the populace is stupid. He apologized! Unlike the other; who also so badly wanted to believe the deception.

And what a perfect way to deflect the question of Dubya's service record.

"Can Dan!" "Can Dan!" "Can Dan!" Did his deceiption cost lives? "Nope! But just don't can Dubya! He's a good ol' boy who knows how to kick ass!" ... until it is yours ... or your son's ... then don't come a whinin'.

Four more years! Four more years!! Four more years!!!

BTW I love watching hecklers, who get past the vetting process, get assaulted by "loyal" supporters. hahaha too funny!

Four more years! Four more years!! Four more years!!! "Shout 'em down boys ... "

I agree. Rather should resign. Irresponsible journalism is wrong, on whatever side it occurs.

I don't think you'll find a lot of libs seriously defending Rather. His goof has made it virtually impossible to seriously discuss Bush's lack of a war record for the rest of the campaign. Stupid.

Every news source is biased to some degree. But the ethics demand that you don't use false information. I can see using true information to show your viewpoint and giving your slant on the info, thats human nature.
But to use information that is of dubious origins and authenticity without clearly spelling out the shakey nature of the evidence is rather disingenuous (I have no idea how to spell that word)...

Wondering why CBS and CBC look so close. Any similarities?..LOL

Dan Rather has for years been a mouth piece of the left. His alliance with the DNC is well documented. While he has the right to belong to wahtever party he wants to and say whatever he wants to say. The problem is that he is in denial about it. To make matters worse he has try to elevate himself above the frai, and portray himself as the experienced, unbias and "get to the bottom" news man. While the facts are that he is a closet democrat..hihi, that finally has come out. (I never was fooled by him)
Like they say "What goes around comes around".

Don...if you are an independent, then I am a socialist.
I don't care for people that frame themselves as independent..just to bash somebody from the other party.
Just come out and say where you stand.

Putting things back in perpective

Saw this in todays newspaper and thought of passing it on:

Which One Should Resign?

Dan Rather - He used forged documents to report a story which cost an American Networks credibility.

G. W. Bush - He used forged documents to start a War which cost over 1,000 American Soldiers' lives.

All the news organizations in north america are communist infiltrated propagandists for the far left, with the possible exception of Fox News, who is only liberal.
Mark my words, it is only a question of time before the other newsanchors try to besmear GWB in the way Rather did. I say the government should pre-emtively take over all the news and bring real democracy and balance to the news.

Give them time, give them time. Ashcroft, Cheney and Ridge, with guidance from Rove and Rush are working on that very concept. It's in the works in Patriot Act II.
