Summer is around the corner and some people are ramping up their workouts to lose the weight they gained in the last year.

But according to a survey by Dating.com, singles shouldn't be too stressed about additional weight interfering with their chances to date.

In the survey, 2,000 singles were asked via email what their preferred body type for a partner was, what they looked for in a partner, and what body they considered themselves to have. Nearly 75% of the respondents said they preferred a partner with a "dad bod" over any other body type in 2021. Dating.com did not break down the demographics of who was surveyed.

Unlike the chiseled and toned body types sold as the ideal physique to have, dad bods refer to bodies that are un-toned, a little squishy, but not completely out of shape or overweight.

Unlike the chiseled and toned body types sold as the ideal physique to have, dad bods refer to bodies that are un-toned, a little squishy, but not completely out of shape or overweight.

While dad bods have traditionally referred to men's bodies in the past, Dating.com defined dad bods as something people of all genders and sexualities can have.

The pandemic has likely had an impact on the way singles view bodies — both their partners and their own

Maria Sullivan, dating expert and vice president of Dating.com, told Insider the shift in attitudes toward body positivity likely has to do with the pandemic's effect on our lifestyles.

People who once had active lives may have shifted their habits in the last year to stay safe inside, which led to weight gain.

"Singles are beginning to embrace more body types as they know the struggle of staying in shape during the pandemic," Sullivan said.

Sullivan expects this positive shift towards dad bods to signal a change in the way people judge the attractiveness of their partners.

"Dad bods are bringing a whole new level of confidence and body positivity to singles as others are beginning to embrace and prefer a more common body type than the fit and chiseled figure," Sullivan said.

"Singles are now spending less time worrying about the way their body looks and spending more time getting to know other singles without feeling self-conscious about the way they look."

Love dad bods mainly because they are the most realistic body type you see on the average joe. Personally if i was with a dude who was hella jacked I would feel the need to constantly work out just to match him.

But yah dad bods are great and can kinda be like a cuddly teddybear from time to time

My 6 pack days are over, sad to say. I look at old pics of me and don't recognize that naked dude in the nude run at university. I would give all my money (28 cents) to re-live those 5 years at university again. (Yes, 5 years and no I didn't flunk a year. It was a 5 year 2 degree program.)

OK, my 6 pack is out but is my ten-inch cock still ok?

So much woke shame happening.

Everyone has a six pack. Only some are hidden behind a layer of fat. $ize matters too.

Women say dad bods but it's not the truth. I think both sides in a relationship secretly want to think they're hotter than the other.

That's the important piece of information. The demographic are 1) pranksters who voted for dad bod to skew the results or 2) certainly not young women since they're both not attracted to it and nobody in their immediate dating pool has a dad bod yet or 3) insecure women that want their partner to be less sexually attractive than them, or some combination thereof.

Every now and then we come across a fake body positivity article... this time by dating.com to promote their site and give their paying members hope. It may make us feel good but the feeling quickly fades because we all know it's a lie.

Hmmm....is this in the category of respondents saying things to be nice? Like how people respond to questions on boob size, penis size, weight, hair, etc etc.

Dad bod isn't an obese, obnoxious dude, but an average Joe with some body fat.

I dunno. I can see how most girls/women would want a dad bod over a fit hunk.

Since most are looking for relationships, I'd say comfort is paramount. As some ladies already mentioned, being with a fit fella makes them self conscious of own bodies even if guy's personality and manners are great.

I'd say similar approach applies to most guys as well. Sure I'd like to shag a princess, but to live with one is another story. Hot girls usually tend to be more high maintenance and demand a certain lifestyle.

Sure Ferrari or Lambo are nice, but it's not an everyday vehicle. I'd rather have a luxury SUV as a daily driver. 😉
