You think cyclists can be rude to each other? You should see how they treat drivers. Like we're the enemy. They challenge driversfor lane space at their own peril. And whine like victims when they get hurt. This ofcourse does not apply to most Toronto cyclists who are very safety concious and courteous.

A bicycle is entitled to a full lane, just like a motorcycle, a compact car, an SUV, an 18-wheeler...
Oh, and in most cases, the driver IS the enemy, because most drivers aren't educated to know that cyclists belong on the road, and not on the sidewalk...

I just purchased my first new bike in 20 years and am getting back into daily rides. As a youth I was hit by several cars because "just never seen me". As a result as a driver I am always scanning for bicycles and give they a wide birth. My observations over the years say I am the execption and not the rule when it comes to drivers.

On the flip side my daughter was driving in Washington State and an elderly man rode into her passenger rear quarter. He decided he would make a left turn directly into her. I advised her to contact the courts and go after him for the deductible. Her mom said no that is silly. Well as you might guess he sued her. He lost but tried like hell to say she hit him. As it finnaly came out in court he tends to be forgetful.

Car are also entitled to a "full lane" . Why do cyclists squeeze between the curb and cars that are waiting for a light to turn green?

Indeed. I used to ride closer to the right side of the road, but after too many idiots opening their door without looking at the road first and almost killing me, I now ride much closer to the middle of the lane.

Interestingly enough, I don't get as much attitude from drivers when I'm riding in a skirt.

Meh. I don't like thongs. I wear them only when I know they're not going to stay on for very long. But for riding my bike, no thong, thankyouverymuch. I'd rather go commando.

First of all: I need a high end bike - I am accepting donations.

Second of all: I have had no trouble with fellow cyclists, however drivers are the real enemy...not all of them. some.

Seems like a lot of Terbites cycle. Prehaps we should get a Terb Wolf Pack together and cycle to all our favorite "locations" an SP/MPA Tour de Terb.

i wish motorists realized that cyclists are vehicles as well and have a right to be on the road...
could you imagine a bike going 25 - 30km/h on a sidewalk full of pedestrians, strollers, dogs?

I would like to see cyclists obey the rules of the road. They don't use hand signals, they pass on the right ALL THE TIME, even when the car ahead of them has their turn signal on to make a right, they ride on the sidewalk. Basically if someone drove a car like most cyclists ride, they wouldn't just lose their licence, they would be in jail. As long as they obey the rules of the road, they can stay on the streets, but for their own safety they belong on the sidewalks.

a town like this isnt really a "cycle town"
used to live in a european town where the MAJORITY of people used their bike for the main source of transport (work etc..) bikes where treated just like autos, and were expected to follow the same rules of the road.
very few serious accidents.

You can lay the same accusation at pretty much all drivers. Rolling stops. Exceeding the speed limit. Not signalling. Watch how many people try to weasel out of speeding tickets.

Car drivers who do not like cyclists are typically bitter fat asses who need to chill. Sure there are some asshole cyclists, but it ain't like they are going to kill you like that asshole driver coming up on you at 160, on the phone, smoking weed, in a Sunfire. One thing you do learn as a cyclist is how many people smoke weed and drive, with Keswick apparently being the "personal use" capital of southern ontario.
