EMS is operating at 75% due to the strike, with some evidence that in addition to that the CUPE workers are dragging their asses around rather than working at normal speed.

Instead of arriving in minutes it took over half an hour to get an ambulence to Yonge & Wellesley, just a few blocks from the hospitals. Now a man is dead.

Hey that wasn't CUPE's fault. Traffic, wind jaywalkers, speedbumps all had a hand in it.

A lot easier for the family to blame the strike rather than admit to themselves that perhaps the information they gave to the 911 dispatcher led to the delay...

Who knows.

I believe there was also construction on that intersection that would have made it too narrow for cars to get out of the ambulances way.

There should be a FULL investigation... fine tooth comb & VERY public.... If it is determined that they DID do their job to the best of their ability they should be very publiclally praised...

However if it can be proven that they in ANY way fucked around for ANY reason they get canned, arrested & charged wit criminal negligence causing death & EVERY oter charge they can..... publish their names.... have the press swarm their houses & hound te families..... Fucking.... RIUN.... them.....

those vehicles are equipped with GPS trackers. If the public wants to know, they can find out. Speed, location etc.

Does anyone know why EMS are allowed even a partial strike? If the guy driving the ambulance isn't an essential service then I don't understand what the term means.

Only the family is saying it was over half an hour. Were they timing it? Because when somebody's having a heart attack, 10 minutes can seem an awfully long time.

""Without a doubt" public safety is being put at risk by sending medics home, the paramedic, who requested anonymity, told the Sun today."

If the paramedic truly thought that way then why did they show up not dressed for work....

Blame the government.
EMS should be considered essential service and not be allowed to strike. I expect there will be more deaths.

Can we wait for the investigation to be concluded before we start hanging people?

I'm not judging the investigation, just giving my view that essential services shouldn't be allowed to strike. This is under government control, so I blame them for not doing something.

But if the allowed reduction of manpower did not create any jeopardy to the public why should the government be blamed? I believe the statement has been made that the reduced manpower has not affected call times on critical calls. Once the investigation into this particular event is done we will know the truth of that statement.

Not 30 minutes .. That is unacceptable. I could get there much faster in my own private car without the need of sirens even in rush hour.

If someone has an emergency and wants to get to a place, they can .. one way or another.

Its a shame. This strike has to end .. That is just crazy.. Even the poorest countries not have silly garbage strikes or CUPE strikes like Canada ..

Bastards! According to CTY News tonight, the ambulance arrived at the scene in 9 minutes but the crew waited outside the building while a man was dying inside. That crew should be investigated for possible criminal charges. Their job is to SAVE lives not linger around while people are dying. If they can't save lives, please quit and get a job as a dogwalker.

It appears that the dead man was gay. The unionists are in deep goo if they pissed off the gay lobby. These guys (and ladies) aren't afraid to take on anyone. They took on the police for years and that culminated in the "Pussy Palace" settlement where the police had to fork over $350,000 and agree to take gay sensitivity courses.
