What do you guys do with the old CRT ("big back") PC monitors? Do you just leave them on the curb?
My company donated all our CRT monitors to a local charity. I'm sure there is a recycling place in Toronto where you can drop it off.Rockslinger said:What do you guys do with the old CRT ("big back") PC monitors? Do you just leave them on the curb?

This is interesting. Would a CRT also reproduce better JPEGs as well? How about the new high definition PC monitors? Any good?wonderboy007 said:I use CRT's till this day (Professional Ones), as a graphic artist since Normal LCD's cannot compare in color reproduction.
And the Toronto website says to call ahead to determine the fee. So much for free.crystalpalace said:There the city will properly dispose of it for free.
You can look this up from your city's website.

It has to be properly disassembled.

thought you just pay in cash ?.....CUTTERBUCK said:The hazardous waste depots in Waterloo Region charge to dispose of electronics such as CRT’s, Computers, etc. That’s why you constantly see them at the curb, someone always takes them off your hands. One man’s garbage is ………………. I’ll be damned if I’ll pay to dispose of my old electronics, I pay taxes for garbage disposal.
That's just ridiculous. City of Toronto has really horrible waste management. They claim to be a green city yet they charge for a service that is free in most other places.Horney_Senior said:And the Toronto website says to call ahead to determine the fee. So much for free.
Isn't there already a "disposal" tax imbedded in the price at the time you buy the machine?crystalpalace said:They claim to be a green city yet they charge for a service that is free in most other places.
Thanks but I think there are enough "scavengers" patrolling the neighbourhood to take care of these things. They even took my old broken gas water heater this Spring.anonemouse said:Post it in the "free" section of CL, I bet someone will come and get it.
They probably took that for scrap metal - it's amazing how much junk yards pay for that stuff.Rockslinger said:Thanks but I think there are enough "scavengers" patrolling the neighbourhood to take care of these things. They even took my old broken gas water heater this Spring.
Free enterprise at work. But, I heard that the drop in commodity prices have really hurt the savagening business.FunSeeker27 said:They probably took that for scrap metal - it's amazing how much junk yards pay for that stuff.
Not sure I want anybody on CL to know I live in the Bridal Path but I get your point.anonemouse said:If they don't, put it on CL and they'll race to your home to get it.
Ofcourse it would. Professional CRT's support almost all of the color gamut of the NTSC specification.Rockslinger said:This is interesting. Would a CRT also reproduce better JPEGs as well? How about the new high definition PC monitors? Any good?
It seems that the "coating" on my old CRT screen is rubbing off? Is this dangerous?
Maybe I should hang on to my CRT monitor then. Yes?wonderboy007 said:Ofcourse it would. Professional CRT's support almost all of the color gamut of the NTSC specification.
If you can afford an LED Backlit or a LCD with IPS technology then I'd go there, but they're expensive and worth it. You get what you pay for, and some frugal people think the cheaper the better.Rockslinger said:Maybe I should hang on to my CRT monitor then. Yes?
