Critically endangered tiger fatally shot at Florida zoo after biting man’s arm

Back when I was in College, we stopped in at Mints for liquid lunch. Jane So and So’s Exotic circus was in town as she was stripping their that week.

Walking out to leave, one of the handlers had her Tiger out on a chain leash where the parking lot met the side walk on Main Street. ( their trailer was maybe 20 feet away)… I asked if I could pet the Tiger. Guy said sure, so I reached and he said “stop! You want to pet him from behind his head. Never stick your hand in front of a Tigers mouth.”

That was really really good advice.

I once was in the enclosure with a male Cheetah, which is a much less dangerous animal than a tiger. But I was given the same advice: "Don't pet him on the head". I petted him and he licked my arm.
