That land has been taken, retaken, and retaken again. Which is true of just about every land on Earth. Plus, who is "them"? If you're talking about Palestinians from 1948, then most of "them" are dead and gone.
People are way too focused on what happened in the past, to individuals who no longer exist, and need to focus more on solutions for the future and the people living it. Solutions that don't involve bombardment/invasion every 10 years or so.
And lots of Israelites don't want to exterminate Palestine, but get a little agitated when their daughters are kidnapped, raped and killed.

The British invited the Jews into Palestine and the idea was that the Jews and Arabs would share it. When the Brits pulled out, the Arabs tried to genocide the Jews in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1972. The Jews ended up running what was previously Palestine.

Biblical, historical Israel? The Romans sorted them out a couple of thousand years ago. The modern state of Israel? They were somewhat gifted much of the original biblical territory sort of to make up for the holocaust, even though none of the land belonged to Nazis or the Third Reich.

So, after WWII the rest of the world though it was a good idea to grant Israel territorial rights.
