My wife had her purse stolen with all her credit cards but I didn't report it to the police. The thief spends less than she does.

Credit card companies are really cool about fraudulent charges on your account IF it's the first or second time. Seriously, these things happen because of thieves and bad luck but if you ever make more than 2-3 claims no matter how honest and how much proof you have, the credit cards will never help you out ever again.

It's the same with the car insurance. Once you make your third claim you'll have a VERY difficult time finding an insurance company who'll take you. Now imagine that you get your credit cards and car insurance beginning at 18 and live to be 80, that's 60 years where you'll only be able to make 2-3 claims without penalty.

I've had fraudulent charges posted to my account on about 3 or 4 separate occasions, all re; the same credit card! Talk about bad luck... at least the CC company was cool about it.

However, suppose it is a certain employee at a store you frequent often. How is the customer supposed to know where the fraud originated?? It's impossible. Therefore, if you have sufficient evidence, and have taken precautionary measures such as putting notes on your file that no transactions are to occur w/o the card being present, etc., then there is no reason for the bank to give the cardholder a hard time over something like this. It's not their fault, after all. I would be livid if they were any less than accomodating.

Another rule I live by is that I keep one credit card for large purchases and another for internet purchases only. The internet card has a limit of only $1,000 so if any fraud takes place they can only get 1 grand.

My CC for large items must always have a signed receipt by me or its no good
