I know it might be a longshot but has anyone else had trouble registering on the CRA's website? I'm trying to register as a new user to view my account and I get to the end (after entering a user id and password) and then I simply can't go any further and it does nothing....

I call them only to either get a busy signal or be put hold for 20 mins. and then here a click and a busy signal. Happened twice today. Frustrating!! I just want to confirm that my last payment was received and they seem to want to make it impossible to do so. :frusty: That's my rant for today!

Be careful about contacting the CRA. After waiting a fairly long time for his tax refund last year, one of my friends contacted the CRA and was told a few days later that his return had now been selected for audit.

Bureaucracy at it's finest!

More likely he wasn't getting his refund because his return had been flagged for something, not the other way around. They don't audit people just for having the nerve to ask why they haven't got their refund yet.

Just keep your proof of payment somewhere safe- if they did not receive it your will most certainly be hearing from them

Are you calling the CRA business window 1-800-959-5525? They are probably busier than normal as it is T4 filing time at the end of this month. Be patient.

If you put any stock into Rockslinger's second hand anecdotal cause and effect proclamation.

IF you believe mine, since I use the CRA website for many filings and have not been audited in fifteen years, then you would see that using the CRA website protects you from CRA audits.
I agree. No correlation. (Keep on trying Chloe - sometimes it's a busy time of day that you're calling - try a low peak time).

That sounds logical Mike.

My friend suspects this is the case. When he called to ask about the delay in his refund, he was told it was delayed due to "further review". Then they told him it was under audit. Apparently, the CRA was curious why his income dropped so much in 2010 compared to earlier years. He had a simple explanation. Loss of income due to recession.

I was online with CRA in November, and had great service.

In my case, there was a glitch in the registration process, and the person I spoke with pulled up the microfiche of the relevant old original records, corrected the data error, and called me back within the hour.

CTV NEWS has been doing a story the past few days about the CRA declaring living people dead and stop sending them their refund cheque. That is one way to reduce the deficit.

The CRA has finally agreed that Susan Campbell of Stratford is alive and not deceased and has sent her the money.

Yeah I saw something like that on TV, but the odd glitch will happen. Surely, proving you're not dead isn't too difficult a task to resolve a situation.

You must have been owing them some money...lol Once I was late filing my taxes, they even offered to help me with the tax preparation ( just send all the relevant paperwork to us, we will fix it at our end )

Susan Campbell of Stratford (and some others) will disagree. It took the efforts of the Minister of National Revenue to restore her live status. Apparently, CRA's computers are 30 years old.
