While I have no doubt that Tony Clement or Peter Van Loan would make a better POTUS than Bush, I'm not convinced that Stockwell Day would be any better. In fact, I think you would have a difficult time convincing me he would be as good as.
It is hard to think of someone doing worse than Bush but I would have a hard time trying to convince myself that Stockwell or Rona Ambrose or Gordon O'Connor, would do better than Bush. I also would have a hell of a time trying to picture John Kerry as President. I do suppose they could do worse than Bush. At least he has yet to launch the nukes.

Adscam was minor level bureaucrats doing in Quebec what we've always done in Quebec since the time of John A. MacDonald ... buy the French vote, or try. It's a game as old as Canada itself. Does it make it right? No, but hardly a big item.
Did you forget that some of our tax dollars were being funnelled back into the Liberal party? That makes it a "big item" as far as I'm concerned.

The idea that the PRIME MINISTER, not some petty bureaucrat, is taking bribes in office at all is far, far worse.
You're assuming Chretien had no knowledge of what was going on with regards to adscam. I don't make that assumption.

And this bribe was only one in a long series of stupid, corrupt moves made by Mulroney, who swapped terrible legislation in terms of its impact on the country for board seats with companies who benefitted from those stupid decisions.
On this we agree. Mulroney was not above selling out his country for personal gain.

The difference between us is I find all government corruption repulsive. You seem to consider corruption from a Conservative government more revolting than corruption from a Liberal government.

Ya, Stockwell isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

What gets me pissed off is all the self-righteous idiots on the right who go on and on about the "integrity" of Conservatives vs. Liberals ... implying some kind of moral superiority that has never existed on either side. It gets perpetuated by stupid media outlets and specific commentators too, and that's just why I find the need to remind people in particular about Conservative sell-outs of the country ... going all the way back to MacDonald.

But only a fool would say the Liberals are somehow "clean" too. So I'll concede that point easily.
I actually think the exact opposite is true. There is no question that the Canadian media has historically been pro-Liberal and on this board the moral outrage posters on the left outnumber the ones on the right 2 to 1.

The media will likely stay largely anti-Conservative or anti-Harper because Harper continues to annoy them by treating hem with arrogance and by muzzling his minions.

I figured LancsLad Battersby would support the Coronation St. network as a source for Wetherfield news.

Times have been changing for sometime. CTV and the Sun seem to have come down on the side of the Conservatives since the at least the days of Harris. The Star seems less pro liberal then it once was. More and more local rags are becoming pro Conservative. Rich love those tax breaks, the rest of the population be damned. Much of the news media should be called News Entertainment much like the WWE calls itself Sports Entertainment. When the go after the Conservatives the way they went after the Rae Government in Ontario then you can complain. Harris went through untouched in comparison.

The media pro liberal? CFTO/CTV has many close ties to prominent Tories. The Grey Lady is hardly liberal. The FP is trying to figure out what it is. The Sun has never been remotely close to centre.

National Post? Seems it was created as an attack paper against the Liberal Party.

Christ you are so biased you are going back 15 plus years . You forget adscam, FBDB. Jane Stewart. All that was much more recent and makes your $300,000 look like petty cash.

Get some balance.

As far as the CBC is concerned does anyone actually watch it except for NHL, CFL, olympics and news on Rapidair AC flights ?
To make matters worse the CBC lost the broadcast rights to the CFL to TSN. I will admit that the CBC did fill a void 30 years ago. I have a Starchoice satellite system at my cottage which cost me around $200. I can receive the same channels at my cottage as my home in the city. The days of the CBC being the only option for people living in the rural areas are long gone.

But back in the day my grandfather sure liked watching the Beachcombers on the CBC. Was there any better comedy than watching Relic steal Nick's logs, week after week? :D
