I know nothing about law,...but can't the judge do ANYTHING in cases like this ?

This is NOT any form of "justice", even for the US.

This is where a WHITE cop gets away with shooting in the back and unarmed BLACK man running from the cop in question. Add insult to injury, he plants the Taser and says the decedent tried to take it from him.

No doubt a WHITE juror in South Carolina refuses to convict the WHITE cop for shooting an unharmed BLACK man. Doesn't surprise me, that considered sport in those parts...

If a miss-trial is declared I believe that double jeopardy does not apply and the DA has the option to refile the charges and hold a new trial. Given the high profile nature of this case I expect that the DA will exercise that option. Also I believe the Federal Government in the US has the option to bring separate charges for violating the the dead man's civil rights. So while this is a set back for the prosecution, this COP is not free and clear yet. I find it disturbing though, that there is anybody out there who could watch that video and still vote to acquit.

I would think so, although I'm not sure if they ever tried that angle. Perhaps after seeing what a gong show the first trial was, they decided that getting a conviction would be impossible.

That was Black on White crime, not White on Black; it makes a difference. Anyway, Simpson was acquitted and there was no way the Feds would have brought civil rights charges against Simpson, given the darling of the Black community that he was. That would have caused riots.
