How hard or how easy is it?


I wanna convert my laptop from ME to Windows Xp professional. Anyone know how to do it?

Do i just install the disk and it will automatically delete ME. I dont need to save any files i have already converted them to my desktop.

What applications did you want to run on it? A P3 may be too slow for an XP platform. Does anyone else think so?

Its a P3 850 128 ram

A PIII 850 is fine to run WinXP, however, you will need to up the RAM. Microsoft's minimum suggested amount is 128Mb and recommends 256Mb. Neither, in my opinion, is enough. 512Mb should be sufficient. The upgrade will not be terribly expensive. The memory on your rig is, most likely, PC-133 SDRAM and to upgrade to 512Mb you're looking to pay about $75 or so for used memory (lots of places that it's available).

Its a dell laptop i was told the memory was more than that about 360$ for 512 ram.

Sorry. I misread. Yup...laptop memory will run you a bit more. Could be about $150 for 256Mb. What is the model # of your laptop?

Even with more RAM that Dell with be dead slow.... we upped the same model at one of my clients for a teacher ....... i ran 20 times faster off of a knoppix linux cd then XP off the drive. Then again we only added a gig of ram to it......
