A guy driving a convertible downtown Toronto hit a cyclist. He then sped away, with the cyclist hanging on to his passenger door. He managed to knock the cyclist off of his car by running over curbs against trees and bushes. When the cyclist fell off, he got run over by the car's rear wheels. The police arrested the driver when he pulled into the Park Hyatt hotel 2 blocks away from the accident. The cyclist is in the hospital with severe head injuries as a result of everything that happened.

Can you believe this fucking idiot? Has he been watching too many stupid action movies? Has he lost all sense of reality? Or is he just an ignorant son of a bitch? This guy needs to get put away for a long time. And he better hope the cyclist doesn't die, because he'll be facing Manslaughter charges as well if he does.

What in the name of God is this world turning into?

OMG Has anybody heard from CycleGuy to-night?

Seriously, the driver could have panicked. One never knows how one one might react in that situation. Hope the cyclist makes a full recovery.

let me play the devil's advocate here. i am a driver and noticed there are more and more cyclists on the road now. most of them are well behaved, but then there are some weaving in and out of traffic as if they own the road. and they do not stop when they should. I often share the lane with cyclists when i drive on the right most lane, and i sometiems do not see them coming from behind. when there is not enough space for them to squeeze through, some them spank on my car to show their impatience, or barely squeezing through almost scratching my car. at times i cannot but get a vibe some cyclists think they are better than you because you drive a car and they ride bikes. they think they do not pollute air so they deserve some special respect or right of way.
as in this case, why the hell did this cyclist hang on to the door of the car after he fell? was he going to fight the driver? he could have protected himself better by moving off the road remember the drivers licence place and wait for assistance

I rode my bike for years everywhere in Toronto before I ever owned a car and I have come to the following conclusion:

I've learned is that there are idiots on two wheels and idiots on four. The bigger idiots are on two wheels because they mess with the idiots on four.

Very true. In a battle between car and bike, the car always wins.

Wow. This is right up there with your wish for crooked cops to be killed. As someone who has been hit by cars a few times (running or riding and hit by either drunk or zoned out drivers), your best bet is to go on the hood or become "one" with the car. Even at slow speed (5mph) a car can do serious damage to a person.

The cyclist was hanging on to the drivers side door of a convertible. A convertible! He knows if he lets go, he goes under the car. Fight the driver? The guy was trying to survive. In an insane move, the driver moves to the other side of the road and tries to use objects to shake him off. The cyclist acted rationally. It is the driver who was a nutcase and acted improperly.

If you want to kill someone, do it with a car. The chances of getting a lenient sentence are very good.

I won't be surprised if its a high profile person who did this...simply because they haven't released the drivers name yet.

You were spot on buddy!

Bryant pulled into the Hotel (where he was staying?) and also had a woman in the car with him (not a spouse I would guess). Wouldn't surprise me if he was drinking as well.

This guy is fucked - killed a cyclist, left the scene of the accident causing mayhem along the way, having an affair (I would guess), probably pissed and is high profile.

I hope they throw the book at him, but he does know people so may get away with it?

This guy deserves to go away for a long time. And you're right, he was either drunk, or having an affair and didn't want to get caught at it. This certainly blew up in his face.

I feel for the family and friends of the guy who died. They are going to want this guy penalized to the max. And I am with them on this, as this is one horrendous crime he committed.

This is crazy......odd that it says "it appeared that the cyclist hung onto the vehicle in an attempt to get him to stop".

If that is the case, he's not much smarter than the driver.

Did it give the right to the asshole fucking idiot driver to do what he did and kill the cyclist? The driver should have NEVER moved with the cyclist hanging on. We will never know exactly why the cyclist was holding on. Maybe, he was afraid that he might have fallen beneath the wheels of the car, as he eventuially did from the asshole's actions.

That is the reporter's interpretation. As I said earlier, we will never know why the cyclist hung on. Did the report say that the cyclist was knocked down, or did he get hit so as to land onto the car? I didn't see anything with respect to that in the papers.

It will be interesting to see what comes out. Given the number of witnesses and cameras it could be hard to sweep it away. With the depressed economy the public is hurting and is not going to be inclined to look the other way. Probably more interest than usual as he is one of the power structure, a privileged individual. The authorities may go overboard to stick it to him.

If this is the guy, he was reguarded as a strong possibility to succeed McGinty and Liberal Leader. His recent departure from cabinet was to a high profile job in Toronto where he could be in the public eye and ready when McGinty retires. I think he gave the pitch to the Can-Am Games folks just recently.

Two lives destroyed. Its a very sad story. I feel for the cyclist more than the driver.
